Hi everyone, I,m new to this site so please bear with me. I am a July 2009 graduate of Chippewa Valley Technical college in Eau claire,WI. I went through their eight week CDL. course which included skid pad and emergency manuevers training. I now have my class A. CDL. which includes Hazmat, tanker, and the doubles/triples endorsements. The trouble is I can't find a driving job anywhere. Everyone wants at least six months of experience and the ones who used to hire recent grads have either closed their advanced training courses(Schneider) or have told me to try next year (werner & swift). I'm afraid if I wait to long they will all say my training is now to old. So any advice would greatly be appreciated. About my past, my driving record is good, the only thing on it was that my lisence was suspended for an unpaid fine that happened back in 1989. It took ten years to show up on the computer. And it was just because my learners permit expired a week before I got my license, thats it. And far as criminal, no felonies, a misdoemenor disorderly conduct back in 1989 and a misdoemenor drug charge baqck in 1997. I am willing to team with an experienced driver just to get the experience. I live in River Falls,WI. Thank you.

Try you local construction companies. It is tough with the economy the way it is, and plenty of experience drivers who are out of work.. Good luck at what ever you do.. Just noticed that drug charge, will give you the most problems, as some companies have a zero policy on those types of convictions..

Does the school offer any asistance? try CR england, they tend to take a lot of newbies, I know that they are not popular, however you only need to tough it out with them for a 6 months or a year, then you can move on to a "better" company.

There are far more drivers planning on moving to a better company in 6 months to a year than there will be openings for . Far too many will be stuck where they are for 2 or more years .

To Wisconsin newbie. I want to congradulate you. All I can recomend is looking through ads in papers the computers. Also Im not sure, I think you are pretty close to a truck stop. Go there pick up some books, thru the gears, look there also talk to some drivers in the lot. Being not too far from the Twin cities should also open doors if you can travel a bit. Just keep looking. If people are going to be jerks to you thats a good sign you dont want to be with there company. Also rule number 1 and most important!! WARNING!!! Look out for yourself!! and if you get with a company that has the driver unload, BE EXTRA EXTRA CAREFUL!!! Its your back, your legs your body that can get hurt and no one will care... You have a general rule of thumb, be careful and I wish you the best of luck!

Have you tried Prime out of the cities? I think they hire recent grads with no exp, not 100% sure though. I would check out classadrivers its a website, just google it. It lists the companies hiring for your area. But like the other poster said, that drug charge is gonna hurt you and might make the final decision when they are looking over your info. Check out local companies like dump truck or construction places.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I will check out Cr. England and Prime. I have also received an Email from Cental Refridgerated Services, they want me to give them a call. Anyone have any information on them? I know that the misdomeanor drug charge may hurt me but it was thirteen years ago and I have'nt been in trouble since. I guess you could say I learned my lesson. But with the economy the way it is, I guess trucking companies will take the best applicants first. Again thanks for the advice and any more would be appreciated.

To Wi. Newbie, Another thing, when these companies start jawjackin about how they are looking 4 the best of the best, lets make sure they implement the best of the best in their dispatch department. Because that is a 2-way street ya know.

To TIMMM, I hear what your saying. But being the new guy I figured I better just suck it up and not be so picky. I just want to get the experiance and get the best on the job training so I can become a safe and efficient driver. I might have went to an eight week school, but I figure my real training doesn't start until I'm actually on the road. I'm also single with no kids, so that should help out a little, since I don't have to worry about home time as much. I am now going to take the advice Brinkj23 gave me and check out classAdrivers site.

To Wi. Newbie With that type of thinking I hope you go a long way. Because after a while some of these companies along with the people in their dispatch department deserve nothing short of being slapped around the way they treat their drivers. I wish you all the best!
