Should you have new drive tires balanced??

I have used them all. Have seen steer tires that were so far out of balance they put them back in the rack. Wonder how they would have been with the beads?

 

I recently had a lot of trouble with vibration. A combination of things fixed it. 3 axle alignment I had gone too long on (about 2 years), replaced lousy Firestone steers with Michelins, one u-joint bad and Centramatics on the drives. I also had a drive shaft angle correction done.

The thing that really sealed the deal was having the new Michelin steers balanced by an old school shop with a balancer that balances the tire ON the truck, not pulled off and balance on a machine.

I'm curious what this kind of spin balancer is called. Anyone know?

I bought a truck that a a serious wobble I thought kingpins for sure. New steer tires, spin balanced and 3 axel alignment. Fixed it.

 

No, they don't get balanced. You can get centramatics for the rears (as well as the steer tires)
Get new shocks.
Add a crossfires to each set of duals. Eliminates cupping due to tires not having same air pressure.
Duals wear evenly.
Worth the money.
About 280 for a set of 4.
Cheaper online.
Make sure that you know max rated tire pressure before ordering.

 

Stay away from Chinese knock offs.
I run 16 ply Goodyear on the steer axle and Kelly's on the drivers.

I average 120k on steers and 350-400k on the rears pulling tankers with no baffles.
