Any info on barr nunn?

I see them a lot around me mainly hauling bricks and sticks type loads. A lot of rebar and some OS long loads on stretch trailers

 

That’s becoming standard across the industry. I work for Black Horse Carriers (owned by Penske), and I’ve gotten used to the driver facing cam. But, I still don’t like them since they get you on minor stuff. I had a hard brake that triggered the camera, and on the camera I was holding a granola bar. They wrote me up for distracted driving lol. Mind you, I had both hands on the wheel while holding the bar in my right hand and responded quickly when the stupid deer ran in front of me.

Needless to say I refused to sign that write up. Another write up they gave me was from following too closely. A car got into my lane right before the light changed and they slammed on their brakes, causing me to brake hard. The video showed I eased off the accelerator as soon as he came into my lane and I coasted for 3 seconds before the light changed. They said I only had 1.7 seconds distance when the hard brake occurred. I refused to sign that as well.

 

My wife and I are on the team side at Barr Nunn, so I can't really comment on the solo gig that much. But we do love it...a lot of short haul, but almost all drop and hook. The truck has a camera but it is only forward facing. We stay out for a minimum 30 days and then can take 15 off, but I don't know if they even hire for that anymore. We stay out as long as we want.

We get a choice for driving or flying, and have done both. I guess it might be different depending on your location. We hired on expecting to slip seat into a different truck after home time, but we have kept the same truck all year due to covid.

We average 5500mi a week, and currently make .91 a mile with hazmat. We are on pace to gross just over 100k each while having 12 weeks off this year. I know this may not be helpful for someone looking at a solo position, but I'm just putting out a little info that would have been nice to have when we applied.

Is Barr Nunn a Roman Catholic organization? The word Nun(n) reminds me of my childhood, and not in a good way. Stay away from these idolatrous trucking companies. Signed, Rev. Humbuckers.

 

I’m a current barr nunn driver. VERY good outfit. I’m on pace to gross 105-110k this year. Mostly dropping & hooking but some lives. Bonuses are CRAZY good. Any questions-ask away.

 

That is only certain parts of the country that are not in our main running areas. And I think it’s something like 30 on 15 off-with the flying position. To be clear-that is definitely NOT how they hire most places. I’m in eastern PA, I’m seldom more than 300 miles from home and my weekends at home are 60-65 hours every week, unless I choose to stay out an extra day. If you live in the northeast, you can thrive here, for sure. I gross anywhere from $340-$500+ a day. Regardless of miles, $340/day is my floor basically. Depending how many loads I deliver. They’re all short for the position I run. 200+ miles is a long one for me. Many are like 100-150 miles. I’ve even hauled some that are less than 30 miles. $250/shift + $90/load. At least 1 a day, they normally try for 2. Sometimes 3, even done 4 in a day maybe 2-3 times before.

 

That’s not true. Road facing only , no sound. We’ve been told we will never have driver facing.
