It’s inevitable that autonomous vehicles will become the norm.
The lobbyist will push that People can’t be trusted to do the right thing on the road, but we can trust big business to get it right. With a few billion in government subsidies.
Ultimately you can program a computer with enough updates to get a better safety record than the majority of drivers.

Not going to happen in any of our life times. Airplanes and trains are pretty much autonomous. Guess what. They are still operated by humans.

Till you have everyone driving autonomous cars. You won't have trucks without a driver.
    Period.

Yet the guy who has gotten the furthest with this using cars, which is a lot easier than with trucks, has just recently admitted that it's a lot more difficult than he thought it would be to get done. Are they going to try it, absolutely, if they have to pay Congress millions to get themselves immunity from any accidents they cause that's what they'll do.

They can't even get half of the addresses right on their GPS software for the amount of precision that an A. I. System needs to pull into a driveway.

I can't wait until they run into the classic "turn left into the cornfield" problem.

You are so right. We are headed straight for an impending crash that has really nothing to do with AI. The people that feed this country are generally a very peaceful bunch of God fearing people that will tolerate a lot without incident but with everything being done these days to intimidate them and taunt them and blame them for all of the world's problems is eventually going to define tyrannical.

I appreciate all of your replies and read every one, but it’s like you just read the title and replied. You would have no idea why I brought this subject up. I explained several reasons why autonomy is inevitable and it seems all that was ignored.
