I'm 21 and looking into starting out driving. I don't have money or anything to get started so I'm looking for a company that will foot all of that for now and pay back later. I applied at prime but they told me they cant hire me because I have 5 months of unemployment in the past 3 years. I have barely been out of school for 3 years...... My dads friend told me to try werner for now to get the experience then go to a diff company but I'm see'ing a lot of negativity directed towards werner. I am hoping to apply at good company's before the not so good ones. So, any good training companys that would foot the bill for now like prime? I figure once I get a few replies for companys I'll go and check there sub-forum and read up on them. Also, I'm in Albuquerque NM and I know swift has a terminal here, think it might be good to try and get there or would terminal not matter at all.
Oh, I have 0 exp driving large trucks but I've been driving cars for 6 years and have 0 accidents and only 1 moving violation...
Need help finding a training company

Call Swift,I think thats your best chance. Not sure if there schools are open.

The companies that also pay for your training do not have the best reputations, and most do not put them in the category of being a good company.
Also, keep in mind, that if you you go with company paid trainng you are limiting your optons.
Have you looked in to the drivng schools near you, including your community college. Also, check into WIA, (work force in action), if you qualify they will pay for your schooling unsing goverment funds and you do not ave to pay...
Good Luck to you..
Oh, also. your 1 speeding ticket... how much over the speed limit was it for? Because that makes a big difference. -
WIA may be a no good, lots of states cant afford it.Dont know about his state but I know they are not offering WIA in PA FL NJ just to name a few.

Heh, that speeding ticket kinda made me mad. I was doin 74 in a 45. Just got off working a 13 hour long hard shift and I was on a really long really dark deserted road at 5:30 am... As for schooling, I don't have any money... I'm living with my dad atm and he doesn't really have the money to help me pay for a schooling... I need to start working asap so I can help dad pay bills and stuff. The community college wants like, a year and a half for there 3 classes and thats for a B class license. They don't offer A class.

It sounds like you really need to be earning some money as soon as possile and if I were you I would be trying to get anything I could. Also, it is always better to get into trucking when you are not completely broke. There are plenty of stories of individuals who got stranded miles and miles from home with no money to get home on or even get a room and eat.
You can keep calling companies... but I would also look for non truck driving jobs... Try getting on at a warehouse where you load trucks, then you can move into shagging and eventually otr trucking....
Good luck to you and keep us posted.... -
I applied at SWIFT but I cant stand by my house phone all day waiting for them to call... I don't have a cell phone atm and I have work to do outside and stuff... I tried to call THEM but they told me to apply online and wait for a recruiter to call me... I'm gonna apply at Werner even though I hear its an awful company...

Call C.R. England they are the best trucking company on the face of the earth!!!

With that ticket, + your age+ no experience?
Time for a reality check.
You will have to wait 2-3 years unless somone small wants to take you on.
If a local tech school has training see what they say about that ticket and if they think you can get hired. Also see what type of finacial assistance.
I got mine through the WIA and I just received the check reimbursing me for my Hazmat, tank, doubles/triples tests and background check. And they paid for my license to boot!
See if any job training is available via the gov....................... -
30mph over the speed limit is pretty bad, man.
I normally go to court on ANY traffic violation, so anything 15 over is worth getting a lawyer to fight for you.
Most places want 23 years, so my 2 cents is get something delivering without a CDL. then gradually move up into Big trucks.
That one ticket will haunt you for perhaps 5 years, not just 3. In time, you'll get past it, but be thinking real hard before you put the pedal to the metal again!!!
