Southbay! Glad to hear things are going well with you. Bet you're excited. Just practice as much as you need to in the yard. You can apply the same techniques of down shifting in the yard >10mph as you can out on the road, you'll just be shifting a lot quicker. When the instructors take you out on the road, this is when you'll REALLY want to pay attention and focus on what's going on. You 10-dayers don't get much time behind the wheel of a W/S truck during orientation as the school assumes you already know how to drive a truck from your training. I assume you guys will do just fiine though!
As far as your questions go, I've mostly been doing drop and hooks and live loads. I've had 3 loads so far where I had to help unload the truck. No big deal, it was furniture and light enough. Not sure what you mean by "routines" And my first truck is a 06 Volvo 670 ISX Cummins 580,000 (started at 569,000) and I love it, just wish I had the freightliner bunk. But I really coudn't be happier with this whole experience. I still smile when I get that paycheck in my account. Sometimes I can't believe I get paid for this.....and other days, I wish I got paid more hahahahaha. All in all, I absolutely love it!
Best of luck to both you and Warp!

About that Volvo Lynch....you promised pictures some time ago. Get on it buddy!! -
So I had to go to do my HPE (Human Performance Evaluation) /agility test yesterday at a physical rehab center here In Los Angeles- all this time I was thinking it was some cheesy "box lifting " class that I would blow through and be out in a few minutes - WOW was I wrong, and dont get me wrong I am in pretty decent shape, not overweight, healthy, and very active - But I walked out of there with jelly legs
after the 50 MINUTE series of tests......SOooooo becasue I have read posts of posters (including me) wondering what was done at the test so I thought I would tell you what I had to do:
1- another pee test
2- move head side to side and up and down
3- hand squeeze test on this machine that would measure squeeze pressure
4- hold arms out to side , then make "goal posts" up and down
5- stand on each leg for 15 seconds
6- twisting back and forth - to test range of motion
7- take double steps (huge steps)up a platform and back down in one motion 5 times - (up and down are 1)
8- lift a milk crate with 70 pounds squatting postion to waste level 5 times
9- lift a milk crate with 40 pounds squatting postion to chest level 5 times
10- lift a milk crate with 40 pounds from squatting to a comfortable positon and hold
10A- hold a 10 pound weight at chest level and do 15 squats
10B - lift 70 pounds in a milk crate to comfortable postion and walk 25' out and back
11- crawl on hands and knees- 15' out and back 15'
12- walk on treadmill for 5 minutes at 2.5 mph
13- bend over touch your toes repeatadly for 3 minutes
14- raise your arms (like liftin a box) and back down repaeatedly for 3 minutes
15 - SQUATS for 3 minutes- thats a lot of repetetive squats lol especially after doing the 40 and 70 and 10 pound lifting squats--- this is the crouching part of the test- I thought it would be crouching and staying there - wrong i was !!
16- bend to side to side and to the back each side continuosly for 3 minutes....
I know I am missing a couple things but you get the point---LEG STRENGTH is what the test was testing for -- LOL - I think in total I did about 125 squats!! sounds easy ---right---go ahead and try it ---even wiithout the 40-70 and 10 pound weights it is a WORK OUT....lol
IF YOU are going to take the test make sure and practice your SQUATS - granted I am in pretty good shape but I dont have "muscle legs" lol - needless to say I did finish but my legs were a wobblin...
I know there are a couple things that I forgot but thats what I had to do for MY LAST Watkins & Shepard-- prehire tests--- I finished it all and passed with flying colors!! yaa whoo..... Montana here I come...I can taste the snow already ....AND YES my legs are sore today
good luck to any drivers coming into the company --- I know you can do it!!! if you believe - you can achieve !!JustSonny Thanks this. -
Ya know, SBD, you've given me a good idea. It's one thing for me to know what might be expected of me (of course, I don't know where I'll be going yet) but it's quite another thing to be able to do what I know. Your post has given me incentive to get off my duff and work toward doing more than read about it and get moving and do it. Thanks for the info!

Geesh! thats a lot of squats!! Nobody even said that you had to do it up and down for 3 minutes...I thought it was a static 3 minutes, assume the position and hold it. At least now I know what I have to practice on....I've been getting to the gym, but now I guess I know to hit the squat box a LOT!
Congrats on getting thru it. Hopefully in a month or so, I'll be doing the same thing. -
Holy cow SBD! I wonder if they gave you the right test? The types of test I have taken test hearing, sight, knees, shoulders, and back. But it doesn't take much to see if someone has a bad knee or back. Thanks for the update and sounds like you can climb Mt. Everest now.

(C'mon Warp, that was too easy - you gotta stop leading with your chin!)
