Try some front squats? Holding the bar like your gonna shoulder press but squat

And lot of it is mental. I only hit 285 1x for my max bench. Never hit it again, was stuck at 275. The day I hit 285 it just came out of nowhere, probably could of hit it for 2 reps. My quad broke down and i pushed it about half a mile home then hit the weights

I haven't done those in a while. Should add them back into the rotation. Been hitting dead squats a lot and just added in hack squats. Hack squats are definitely a quad burner.jamespmack, cke, Flint1 and 4 others Thank this.

How many times do you bench a week? I do once a week. The heavier you lift, the more recovery time you need. Most people do chest, shoulders and triceps on the same day, 3x a week. Too much. You don’t grow or get stronger while you are in the gym, you grow while you are asleep.
Try this: load 295 or 305 on the bar, grip shoulder width, and just intact it as many times as you can for 3 sets. Hold off on chest workouts for at least 5 days, warm up, then hit 275x1 and 295x1, 3sets of 3 reps with 255, then get 185 until you can’t, and 135 until you can’t.jamespmack, cke, Flint1 and 5 others Thank this.
