The ISX forum that was started as a result of being banned from here has become almost unusable in my opinion. The owner has such contempt for anyone that has a hood that it is ridiculous. According to him only about 3 or 4 people in the world are capable of really understanding these engine . Bad demandate is the blanket answer for everyone's problems. Even on stock trucks or those that have been tuned his chosen few. Others on the forum try to give some good advice but the stupid beer drinking rants ruin it for everyone. I am not really interested in hot rodding a late model red engine as I don't see it practical. But I do have the urge to learn about them. I am just looking for another source of technical info that is not tainted by rage.

If you're talking about the site that starts with "R", that guy is irritating AF. Man, does he love to hear himself talk.

Quickserve is the technical go to for Cummins. Had access to Cummins training when did short stint with leasing company and it seemed like decent online training.
The other site is his site, so his site/his rules. It's mostly based members opinions. Seems like if you don't agree that a POS Prostar with a CM871 is greatest combo ever, it's not the place for you to contribute freely. Personally I feel a Big Cam was way more reliable than the ISX.
If you are looking for tuning info, his is spot on IMHO. I read the whole MM document years ago and agree with most all of it. It doesn't mean he is the only person capable of tuning, but he is the only one I have seen that openly shares his strategy and can point out others mistakes. I have also read some very good tuning articles written by others, so there is more than one expert out there but they didn't focus on the X platform.
Personally, I just read from multiple sources and follow the logic that makes most sense to me. I am not much of a fan of trying to turn a EGR engine into pre-EGR one. I feel you just trade one problem for another. My opinion that if you want reliable HP in a hood, just put a yellow one under the hood.

Would you say the same about a 12.7? I'd do a Cat in a pinch, but I really want a Detroit. Curious what your opinion is.

If going Detroit route, I would suggest the 14L DDEC4. @swaan ran one for awhile and spoke highly of it. O/O I help out now and again runs a 12.7L in a 2000 T800. He had it tuned and really thought it was a strong motor. He recently bought a 99 379 with a 2WS Cat that has the 7CZ BS 600 flash in it. I don't see him driving the KW or bragging about a Detroit anymore.

Lol. I totally agree about the Big Cam. Around the turn of the century when the ISX or Signature came out I remember one of the big selling points was fewer moving parts.... Now we are told that 10k for a set of injectors, 4k for a fuel pump that u need to change every 400k or less, 6k for a turbo every 4-600k, and if equipped, 5k yr avg? on emissions systems plus 7k yr on DEF. And all that on an engine that when put in a severe service application gets no better fuel mileage than a BigCam. Oh, don't forget the 120bucks to change fuel filters and much less oil filter. Rates are decent right now from some perspectives but if you look at the cost involved in maintaining a late model engine in a severe service application the shops are the only ones making much coin.

I ran a 1lw e model for 20 years in an old international. At the end truck had over 2 million miles and needed literally everything. It basically paid for just about every bad decision I ever made in my life and kept me going through many tough times. Decided to step into 21st century and bought a 13 kw with cm2250. Made it a year before it made sense to do some local research and found a shop to "fix" it for me. Thank God I had equity in a trailer to borrow against for motor. I absolutely love the newer truck and truly enjoy driving it however I don't trust the red motor any farther than I could throw it. So far so good it's been another year but moving forward to me it is a bit terrifying at the lack of good options that will exist in the future. I feel there are many single truck owners in similar situations just not sure of the solution outside of buy new and trade often. Never been my business model and I'm not amused at the idea whatsoever. Perhaps I expect too high a rate of return on my truck investment but it used to work great.I have really started to feel like one of those "old" guys longing for the good old days. .

I know of 2 trucks that where tuned by his best tuner that have swapped to yellow iron after the red iron failed from things that the tuning was done to prevent.

The more I weigh up the options the less inclined I am to study and understand the latest and greatest. I like the creature comforts of the power daylight doors and the fridge and some other odds and ends of the late model trucks I have no faith in the longevity of the powerplant and electronics. I have a 14 w9 and a 93 w9 and for the difference in maintenance cost alone for one year I can put power daylight doors fridge etc in the 93 and have money leftover
