Fuel haulers are you guys super busy?

    I'm cryo but the fuel joint next to us is 34 straight time and 51 ot.

    It’s surprising to hear you say that; about 50 hours per week not being enough.
    And $1,500 a week not as well.

    Can you please saywhat is a comfortable minimum and hours and pay please.

    The terminal I’m at hauls aviation fuels only. We are busy and have stayed busy.

    I’m in Alaska and started training to deliver fuel August last year. Starting pay is $26 per hour plus benefits they say adds up to another $15 per hour; good low-cost medical, dental and vision, two weeks vacation and pension. Our schedule is 4/10’s with anything over O/T. $1 raise on your second year and your third year you max out at $28

    I finished my training October last year which starts the slow season. All thru fall and the winter I averaged about 42 hours a week; my bi-weekly paychecks were just under $2000 net. I wasn’t happy with this pay but because of the scare-demic, the oil field dried up again.

    My terminal became two drivers shorthanded this past April and I began working more hours than I wanted; five long days a week and many six days earned paychecks over $3000 bi-weekly thru the busy summer. Since August we have been back up to a full staff of seven drivers, but busy enough to be getting over 50 hours a week.

    I must mention the sidenote, I worked as a vac truck driver in the oil field for six years where I would routinely work 70 to 90+ hours when it was busy, but that was always on a rotational schedule. This job I have now is my first, work every week, every month, non-rotational, “job until you retire“ that I’ve had since 1989; so it’s taking a lot of adjustment to get used to it.

    I would love to find a trucking job that has the schedule of 4/10s I think I would take a pay cut just to have that schedule and enjoy more family time .

    Hiring is tough nowadays. We can't find anyone and we are 120K to 134K and home daily.
    We bid annually and the new boss i.e. driver manager,thinks the way to increase productivity is to eliminate our half dozen rotating shifts, 5/2 4/3. Thus gaining 25 days of work each man...
    Well 1 guy quit already and another is one foot out the door.
    Poor sap doesn't understand the need for life outside of the job nor the cost of hiring and training a new employee

    And as a side note for the 1st time ever our KC plant is advertising a training posistion.

    I guess $1500 a week isn't bad if you're only working 40 hours, especially if you're working 4 tens instead of 5 eights.
