All he said and plus... Did one in 1954 in Henderson, TN. Passing an old straight truck in town with a mule. aboard. As I passed, he turned left, his left front bumper stuck in lower right of saddle. Pushed me left. Fine except the gas company had recently put in a city gas line, trenched 24" down. I veered left, off pavement, OOP's, every thing dropped 24 inches in the trench as soon as all wheels had cleared pavement,, and I am lying on my side in the real ditch, looking up at an S&K tool box caught on the park brake lever. Old IH gas L185.
To enhance the situation, I had just filled up with gas in Jackson, TN, (40 miles back) and had 75 Hi Density bales of cotton going New Orleans. Alongside the ditch I'm in; on my left, was the local cotton compress/warehouse, 20 feet away. Gas was slowly trickling from the hole and down into the ditch and running south. Filler cap on down side was seeping.
I remember like you, once I am driving and passing, clunk, bam, and am looking up at sky thru passenger window.
Bales loaded longways on trailer, 4 down, then 3 above, the two above, then one. Front stack chained down and rear stack chained down, full sized tarp over it. Crawled out, met with the law, and asked him to call Markel insurance, it was theirs now.
All this at 25 MPH, in town, city streets. I should not have been passing, he should have seen my hood and cab in front of him before he turned.. Police thought enough/equal fault on each of us and no penalty's. 2 wreckers from Jackson, TN came down and turned me back up, boss brought a spare tractor, swapped it in looked over all and continued on to New Orleans.
Trailer OK as ground and ditch side were soft from recent rains. Tractor had damaged fender and broken mirror caused door damage. Never adjusted tarp or chains. We loaded tight. Boss said be more careful. Don't know what the mule thought of it.dwells40, Bud A., austinmike and 6 others Thank this. -

So Bride and I parked in Redding last night, had to wait till this morning to load and head out. We called a Lyft to go get dinner. While eating she got a call you never want her sister passed. Took her to Redding airport and she was fly back to Sac then got her stuff and off to Las Vegas. I'll meet up with her there this weekend. Fun times
