Economics & Politics are Siamese siblings. Seems like any discussion here, other than repair and maintenance, can be drown into politics. Any aspect of business that is under the central administration jurisdiction can be ultimately tied to politics.
I guess that most strikes happen when people protest against their employers with hopes to better their livelihoods. Political strikes, like those in the countries in the Soviet block always started with the objections to economical lots of the workers. Since all the places of work were ultimately subjected to the centralized planning of the government which was the right hand of the ruling party, those strikes were in a broader scope against the system, therefore political. Similar strikes were in Great Britain against the Thatcher's government that had the power to shut down the mines. The miners were striking against being laid off...which seems kind of odd, if you think about it.
I don't know about strikes in the free market economies that would be directly aimed against the government. They would not make sense in terms of the fact that only the business owners would be the strike recipients. Perhaps, the exception was the strike of the flight controllers in 1981, which was "resolved" by Reagan himself as a threat of paralyzing the country, but again, the strike was not directed against the central administration but the employers. That's a very wrong statement! My Bad!
The employer of flight controllers is
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Most civilian Air Traffic Controllers work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and some work for the Department of Defense (DOD).
Keep in mind the aspect of who the recipient is. If you want to strike by shutting down all of the country's road transport (a daunting task), it would be hard felt by all of the people and, certainly, it wouldn't earn any sympathies from them.Last edited: Aug 31, 2021

It's been out of control since 1861. It seems nothing can stop them now.

I have a pet probably heretical (and likely somewhat flawed) theory it has to do with the way the teamsters union was broken in the wake of jimmy hoffa's jail time.
Splintered things so badly that outside of local unions and personal friendships, no wider trucking brotherhood really existed, certainly not formally and that filtered down and out over the years to where we are now, deregulation and reaganomics were probably also contributing factors.
You know, guys whining abouy how no one has a cb, doesnt stop amd help, that stuff, beginning of the end, end of the teamsters
