379s seem to be growing in numbers in my neck of the woods also. They have always been around but they seem to be increasing now, not decreasing with their age. All the rides I see are very well maintained. Nice thing about a truck like a 379 is the age doesn't matter. If you keep up on maintenance, the truck can just run, run, run.

That can be said for any truck though. I have an uncle that runs a tri axle dump. Up until about two years ago, his daily driver was a '76 Mack R600. Had well over a million miles, and for a dump truck that's a lot. He's now in a Mack Superliner but I couldn't tell you the age.

We have three Freightliner Classics here where I work, all over a million miles, all in great shape. We have a couple Pete's floating around as well, but most have been parked. They're all in great shape, but we got a bunch of Western Stars, and the guys that were die hard Pete fans have grown to love the Star's.

I ran into a fellow the other week at a cement plant driving a Freightliner Argosy. Thing was as beautiful as an Argosy can possibly be. Said he just rebuilt the motor and had the truck gone over top to bottom, front to back. Had it repainted as well. Never thought I'd say an Argosy was nice but that one was really nice.

Definitely plenty of old iron out there. Wasn't attempting to exclude any particular models.

Freightliner Classics are still running around or getting refurbished and readied for the road again. The numerical superiority though of the 379, at least what I see, is pretty easy to pick out. Heck, I even seen a few 359s back at it. If your company has parked 379s, they should put them up for sale. They won't sit for long at all.

Western Star has always been around but in the past few months, I've seen more new ones running lanes than I ever have before. Don't know if dealers are making a push etc but it is nice to see them out there!

Except for maybe me, I’m really impressed with this 20 year old Volvo. Definitely wasn’t my first choice, but for the price and the exceptional condition it’s in I’ll drive it.

I backed into my spot today and as I sat there didn't some guy with a super giant truck come in.

He just wrestled with that thing every which way.

I really felt bad for the guy but according to this thread I'm supposed to envy him.

He got there a few minutes after I did and it took him so long to get backed in that by the time he hit the dock I was loaded and pulling out.

He actually looked a little envious as I pulled right out and I was on my Merry way...

It's nice when you have a work truck that does the work that it's supposed to be able to do:)

But then again Brokers do pay you more when you show them your belt buckle and your chicken lights, right?

Not everyone that has a long truck knows how to handle it either. I’m sure you’ve seen guys with set back axle short wheelbase trucks struggle too.
