The reason you don't have to worry about empties as much is because they don't have as many drivers out there as they did a year ago and there's not as much freight going around these days. When/if freight picks back up, you will notice a serious decline in available empties once they start hiring more drivers and running more freight.

It was a problem when I started for sure! Especially in some areas of the country, it was a real PITA! I did notice this year, empties were a lot easier to come by than the prior year. Now the "newish" trailers can still be hard to get because everyone wants em' and they will be especially desirable in 2k10 with the new rules in effect (new trailer is not as likely to get inspected).

I dealt with most issues via phone and there were no problems. That could depend on your DM though but calling them in many situations is a lot faster than QC! Just don't be calling planners unless they tell you to. Use their qc code in stead and if they want to, they'll call you.

Calling your DM is a good way to be put on his #### list. Use the Qualcomm and relax.

That depends on your DM. Kinda hard to use your qc going down the road. Besides, my time is more valuable than theirs. They get a salary regardless. I have to use my time wisely. Use the QC for important stuff and things that need documentation. For all other bs, call them! You won't be on a #### list if your dm is worth a ####.

I like how you edited your post. Not too bright to advertise using your cell phone while "going down the road".

Do you know that they can see if you are rolling when you call?

My main point is this: the biggest cause of delay for a response via Qualcomm is people calling in and tying up the DM or whoever is on night dispatch. Nobody is more important than anyone else out here. When you call, you jump the line and create a delay for those of us that follow policy.

Now, hang up your phone and pay attention to the road!

Swift company policy prohibits the use of a cell phone while the truck is in motion. The only exception is if you receive a call, have a handsfree setup and end the call within a few minutes. Otherwise you are to pull over to continue the conversation. Under no circumstances are you to place a phone call while driving. Might want to brush up on that driver manual before you put yourself in more hot water.

lol hands free bluetooth is no more dangerous than a cb. I'm sure you're perfect and follow every single company policy to the letter. Good luck staying sane out there!

No doubt. Use the phone more than the qual. Can't wait for the qual when on a limited time frame. Nothing like driving 100 miles and finaly getting your MT call acknowledged on that speedy qual:biggrin_25525:

They send "BTW, need you to p/u BKHL in Dnvr" and I have to call and say "I'm in Pueblo already

Qualcom is definately preferable on the office side. To many phone calls can back up the responses to messages, leading to more phone calls. Then the DM can't get all their work done for the drivers. Exception would be dedicated accounts. The turn time and information needed on them are usually faster paced. Agree that you should not be driving when using your cell though.

Cowboy, like your picture! Target dedicated brings back lots of memorys for me.
