Just keep in mind with extended drain internals that you're keeping metals floating around in your engine longer and the amount of metals in your engine continues to increase the longer you extend the drain. You don't even need to spend the money on synthetic in order to extend your drains either. Blackstone told me the only place they see synthetic out perform conventional oil in under extreme temps, both hot and cold. On today's engines, specially a Cummins, an oil bypass should be mandatory as another layer of protection against soot build up but it does little to help with extended drains. I change my oil every 15,000 miles. I just don't see much benefit to extending the drain and a lot of benefits of getting that dirty oil out of my engine.

Not just engines, power steering fluid and filters as well as the boxes. Clean oil
Helps tremendously. But everyone on this let’s run oil until it is so saturated with crap. I run 25k to 30k max oil changes on my Detroit’s samples are clean and inside engines look great. Detroit says 60k
No way in hell especially since I run 15/40
and I run them to a million or more.

Just to save a few bucks also. Nah, it's cheap insurance on a $40k engine just to change it out. Contaminated and separated oil is the reason to change it in the first place. Oil always has its lubrication properties up until it turns to sludge. We don't change oil because it's not lubricating the engine anymore, but instead because it's dirty and it's doing harm to the engine.

RStewart is right on point, oil is changed when it becomes dirty and contaminated. dont change it based on miles but rather on condition of the oil. running dirty oil for extended periods equals an earlier inframe

We do the same usually around 15-17k. Around the 20k mark is when it starts getting really dirty. OEM recommends 50k......no way in hell

The analysis didn't show dirty oil and it was 3 times my usual interval. To each is own but I'm not throwing oil away that's still pretty clean anymore.

If you're not doing an analysis and only going by the looks if it than you're just wasting money.

You must have a special engine. I've never had a sample come back without having some metal in it. Oil is cheap, I don't mind throwing away something that's damaging my engine.

I use ops bypass. I was doing extended. Then decided the peace of mind of doing them more often was better. Some say I'm wasting money. I say I'm protecting my investment
