Interesting FMCSA sleeper study

Isn't it interesting how the government will spend money to find the right way to do things then do just the opposite ? The split sleeper rules were changed shortly after this study was completed . Since the HOS have to be reviewed those of you unhappy with the new rules should quit relying on OOIDA for help and use the info in this study to support your argument and contact FMCSA and your Congressmen .

[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Many drivers can only receive quality sleep in a stationary truck, therefore team drivers should be selected based on their ability to sleep in a moving truck. [FONT=&quot] [/FONT]If teaming, drivers should be allowed a voice in selecting their driving partner so that drivers are teaming with someone they trust.
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]In addition, both drivers should know what their schedules are far enough in advance so as to allow the drivers to come to a consensus as to who will be driving first. This will allow the partner driving first to prepare by getting adequate sleep prior to departure.
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Team drivers should be equipped with conventional air-ride tractors (as opposed to those that are cabover and/or spring-ride).
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Clean sleeper berths are important for drivers who drive different trucks.
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Better noise insulation is needed between the cab and sleeper berth, as well as the inside and outside of the cab.
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]In addition, better thermal insulation is needed for the tractor.
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Dual escape hatches (on both sides of the sleeper) should be present

I had to double check, thought this may have been posted in the humor section !!

Interesting read....if they REALLY wanted to help the drivers--SO much could be improved !!

Really . What do you think would be the results of a survey now when drivers are forced to drive a minimum of 8 hours because the codriver has to have 8 hours consecutive sleeper berth ?

I'm talking double escape hatches, etc..... Run that poll, and lets find out, but we both kind of know the results already.

Or like my truck NO escape hatch. I hate that!

Years ago when I ran team, I could sleep better if the truck was moving. Once the truck stopped, I was up. But then we did mostly a 5 & 5 or 4 & 4. It was usually set up from a certain point to a certain point. Nope, can't work that way now, since the government has become a "nanny".
