The more I think about this topic the more I am coming to think the DMV clerk is not the one that did this. I hope I am not missing one, but there are three basic restrictions found on a CDL. (four if you count the air brake thing, but I am NOT opening up that can of worms) Restricted to intrastate driving, restricted to vision correction, and restricted to an auto-shift tranny! To remove the intrastate restriction the driver must submit a physical and re-self certify! You must pass the short vision test at the DMV to get the vision restriction removed. The auto-shift thing is part of the information placed in the online system by the road test examiner. I can't see where a clerk has access to it. If you get that restriction removed you still have to take another road test and have that online information changed. The last time I took a physical was when I changed my Ga CDL to Virginia years ago. I remember that clerk spent close to 20+ minutes going through several computer screens before she took my photo and took my money!

My advice to the OP is to see if you can check the status of the CDL online or have a cop run it. If I were a betting man I would be willing to wager the examiner screwed up and gave the OP a fully unrestricted CDL. DMV can only go by what the examiner reports.

They made the mistake. I think I’d want to verify My License before accepting a Job Driving a Manual. Until then, I’d Let it ride. If they made the mistake, I highly doubt they’ll want it exposed. Why Look for problems. As my Uncle used to say,” Don’t go digging up the yard, where it shouldn’t be dug.”

    State dependent.
NC offices, in Greensboro (as well entire State[?]), OPEN to Walk-in.
    Confirmed last week.
NO INTERIOR WAITING except at service pods, then adios.

I advise with the others stating "check with your DMV for confirmation"!!
NO NEED BE PUT O. O. S. at a scale house or other activity!!

Yes, that's why I stated my comment the way I did! Here in Virginia last time I checked they were not allowing walk-ins. Your milage may vary!

I don't see a problem. OP tested on an Auto tranny. He passed his test and DMV issued him his license (un-restricted) so he can drive auto or manual. His file will sit in the bowels of the DMV. If by chance some do-good clerk finds the mistake, they will, I think, simply notify OP by mail and send him new license.

I finally got to speak with a lady that lives near me, she is a supervisory person in one of the DMV offices close to me. I asked her about this and this is what she told me. Of course, she can only speak for Virginia. When a person finally goes back to the DMV to finish the process the clerk has to go through about 15 different screens. If they click continue and something is amiss the system will balk and the clerk has to correct their mistake. I then asked a specific question about this restriction. The lady told me the examiner report is in and grayed out! It can be changed, but it takes a supervisor to override the system. So I can't speak to New Mexico, this kind of mistake is impossible in Virginia. I am 99.99% positive this is the fault of the examiner. They simply did not check the truck equipment box correctly. Enjoy an unrestricted CDL!

"Driver, the CDLIS shows your license is restricted to automatic only".

"Trooper, the system is wrong. Just look at my license. It has no such restriction."

That's what I'd do, but Mrs Skillet is an ex-trucker and drives like a demon, and has promised to pick me up anywhere in the country, if need be, to bring me home.

    So, OOS don't scare me.

    But, "you do you."
