Trailer brakes smoking

Sure your not hooking up the air lines backwards?

 

Does the pigtail have power to the trailer brake anti/lock ?

 

Maybe your truck brakes are crap and the trailer is doing all the stopping.

 

Gotta be some valve applying too much air to the wrong place on the tractor. @Hammer166 is a encyclopedia on such things.

 

Go out to the truck. Build air to cutout and shut off the truck. Leave the park brakes set. Step on the brake pedal about 1/2 way and release. Go out and immediately disconnect the service (blue) gladhand. Let us know if there's air in the line or not.

 

stop riding your brakes.

3 quick possibilities come to mind.

1. As @Old Man suggested, are the truck brakes doing their share of the work?

2. The foot brake valve is fubar'd and dumping full pressure in one circuit. That would also be hitting the steer axle brakes hard.

3. I suppose it's possible something screw ball is happening in the Tractor protection valve, but I'm not seeing how it could. There's definitely service and supply in that same valve though.

We really need to know what was changed, though.

 

Time for a new truck.
