Wilson makes a magnetic mount 1000 series that many have very good luck with.

I personally am running a wilson 2000 on a magnetic base and it works pretty good.

 

I have this one on my pick up truck, the wife's car, and an extra to use for rental car excursions. It may need a bit of trimming to get the SWRs right, but once they're set, I've never had an issue. Sure, the 2000, or 5000 magnetic mount might be "awesome" antennas, but the Lil Wil does the same thing for 1/2 the cost. No need to get the more expensive ones if you're just running barefoot.

 

The lil wil is a joke. It will get you very minimal range at best. A wilson 1000 is 3 times the antenna as the lil wil and not much more money.

What kind of vehicle is it going on? That will help us give you a better response for sure.

 

Sorry but have to disagree with you. I ran a Lill Will on my pickup. I tuned the antenna to a flat swr of 1.5 across the board and its performance was dismal at best. I bought a Bjoran Mag mount and installed a wilson 2000 on it and my range more then trippled. Nothing else changed other then the antenna setup.

This was running a stock untouched Cobra 29 ltd (same as the Uniden 78).

 

Odd, I've had nothing but good luck with 'em when at the end of Cobra 29's or a Cobra 25.

Oh well, if we all ran the same set-ups, we wouldn't have anything to discuss, would we?
