its tru...im having electrical issues with my 2014 peterbilt paccar mx13...but nothing as extreme as your posted pictures.

I mean that has to be 1 truck in 100,000 if that and probably a non-dealership backyard mechanic that worked on it, I'm guessing

It had a c15 in it. The wiring from battery box forward to the starter and goes thru a hold down on the engine or close to it and the causation engineer said it chafes there, and cheaper wire/insulation wears thru, and they catch fire. He found more than one example of it and apparently several insurance company's are persuing them for this. This was 2012, truck was only
5 years old. I lost my shirt. "Actual cash value" is what they pay out. Not retail.
Edit, the engineer said Paccar products do burn up, more than other manufacturers, but all the newer trucks use cheaper off shore wire that doesnt age well and is susceptible to chafing.
ALL of my trucks since, 2,.. have 2 smoke detectors. It went up FAST. I use the pics mostly to I form people, it happens quickly, thankfully I had just parked it and was home. 12 hr earlier I'd been sleeping in it.

oh wow. im glad you are Safe! that truly is scary and disappointing.
you know, I started off driving for ROADWAY EXPRESS in the mid 90s and our trucks were 5 speed high and low 1982 Ford Cabovers with NO powersteering and NO A/C... doing 30 stops a day in Orange County, CA
Thats how I learned to drive a truck and it seems the more comfortable they try make a truck to cater to luxury options for sales...the more dangerous it becomes.

I have experience with Caterpillars, DD15and PACCAR MX13 ..not so much the Cummins....but as far as an engine goes....wiring put aside..the PACCAR MX13 is the best engine I've ever driven when it comes to something durable....I got 600,000 miles before I needed anything major which only resulted because of this insane DPF system that went national in 2008 such as the EGR valve, exhaust manifold and the CVC module which controls your regen while running and the parked regen ...all the emissions crap.

I do still believe in American Craftsmanship and when you put in Chinese parts this is bound to happen

    Oxbow Thanks this.
