If you're not skilled enough to drive anything other than a 220" wheelbase truck just say that

It is evident: You have pride in that ride. And a stretched aero looks sleek, IMO.

I don’t get why Dino keeps coming back to brag about his short wheelbase truck and the tight spots he backs into. He said he stopped following the thread and had his question answered and then made fun of guys who have nice long trucks with chrome and lights and wear boots and belt buckles.

Owning a truck for some is important. They take pride in what they own and how they look and believe that it’s important for the public to understand that. Are you gonna trust some nasty truck with bungees and duct tape on it or are you gonna trust the guy who has a clean truck, maybe with some lights and chrome stuff on it? And if he wears boots and buckles…so what? Better then flip flops and sweatpants lol.

I’m starting to think he’s protesting a little too much. It’s great that you like a short truck and yay! you can back it up. However, the guys who can also back up a nice stretch job are just as skilled, if not more so imo.

You notice how 99.99% of the old school western style stretched out rigs don’t have bent up fenders, bumpers, tanks and wheels? It’s because they actually don’t hit things like 75% of the normal short setup drivers do.
Just something to think about when lack of maneuverability is mentioned.

Dealing with antique and classic trucks my whole life I can tell you that I have maybe seen a handful of trucks that still had their original frame length. When the length laws were lifted in the early 80’s everyone added 15 to 20 inchs to their frames almost overnight. They wanted that big truck western look that only Pete, Kw, real FL, and Western built Macks had at that time.

I’ve heard my dad talking about living in Jersey in early 60’s and how when P-I-E finally got authority to run east and started coming in with the old long wb Pete 350’s and 351’s with 40’ wagons how huge they were compared to the eastern trucks.

I've had that opinion ever since I drove a truck with a sloped hood

My first job was at a farm equipment dealer. I started driving for them when I was 19. They had an International 4700 rollback they used for smaller equipment. Not a scratch in the thing. Everything was original. Well after a few years, that thing had a ton of miles on it, and they bought a Ford 650 to replace it.

Right away I grumbled about the visibility. It was horrible. Sitting in the seat, you couldn't see any of the hood. I can say I hit more stationary objects with that POS than everything else I've ever driven combined.

There's gotta be a visible hood in front of me or I just can't drive it

Imagine seeing these lengths back in the day of aluminum frame rails. Took a few family business trips to California in the late 70’s and seen plenty of trucks that had the rails polished to look like chrome. Sadly. Something that we will never see again

That looks cool. Along with a bunch of FLD's being resurrected lately I've been seeing a bunch of those as well. Keep it up
