It'll be a separate data charge on your cell phone line - same $60/mo whether it's to your phone or a separate modem. The internet you're paying for on your phone now is just for your phone - kind of like "web lite". In order to use your phone as a modem you'll have to pay the modem rate.

The good news is that it's full speed internet from an up-to-date (within the last 2 years and a decent model) phone. Any USB cable that plugs into your phone will do the job - don't pay high dollar ($30) for a data cable if you can avoid it. Personally, if my phone didn't already come with one, I woulda busted Verizon to send me one for free - $60/mo is plenty to pay already. The cable will also charge your phone while it's connected - I plug my phone in like that all the time, without connecting to the internet.

Make sure you set it up at home before rolling out, or at a Verizon store - just drag your laptop and phone in with you. You'll have to download the software from the internet, or get a CD from them, to open the connection (and you need an internet connection to download - hmmm). It was simple from there, and it's never had issues on the road.

Depending on what phone you have you can use the phones high speed internet on a laptop for free. If it's a windows based smart phone like a Palm it has an option to connect to a laptop either with a cord or bluetooth (it's called tethering). I did it for years and as long as your not trying to DL movies or music they have no idea your doing it. The only way they can tell is if your using HUGE amounts of bandwidth which is obviously not being done on a phone. If you have a Blackberry there's a program called "Tetherberry" that does the same thing. It costs like $50.00 but there is no other data charge from your carrier. I use a USB broadband card because mine is connected all day taking and scheduling loads from the truck. I also need the phone so it's just easier for me to pay the extra charge so I don't have to disconnect when I get out of the truck.

if you have a BlackBerry and tmobile i can tell you how to set it up without paying for the Tetherberry program.. all ya need is the unlimited Blackberry internet service and they wont even care if you download music either.. not sure about movies though, never tried it.. it just takes some configuring.. not all that hard, but ya have to know your way around windows a lil... and by the way, are you guys still out there trucking? i remember it use to be like a daily soap in here.. now it's like we only get updates on weekends... or is it cause the holidays are upon us?

Today was the first day I got to drive my truck. I sure felt good to do the speed limit. The funny thing is, after driving 62mph for the last 5 month I kept wanting to slow down. I even found myself driving behind a slow truck (65MPH) for about 5 miles or so, and realized that I could actually go around him. After getting past by everything and everyone the last few months, It sure felt good to go around so many trucks today. Now for the downside to all that hauling butt. That 475 Cat sure is thirsty. I think in the future i'll be content with 65mph. Dont wont to give back all of that fortune to the fuel man.
