The lower boost could also be from timing too far, right? If it's too far advanced another tune backing it off a few deg could gain the boost back, drop cyl temps, lowering water temps. That is if no boost leaks. Just speculating

I can get 42 if I get closer to sea level. Like 3000ft and lower. Most of what I do is at 5000ft+. I haven't checked the impellor, I'd like to think it's in good shape and not spinning as it was replaced at inframe 80k miles ago. I have gone through the charge air system and it's good to go.
    Thanks.

I'd say he's reputable. I've run trucks tuned by him besides this one but they were former acerts with the much better cooling design and he made clean cool power. More than I've got in the 6nz. He likes timing because he wants the engine run in the higher RPM. Doesn't like to see them under 1500 for any reason and no pulling in the hills under 1700.

Check your coolant pressure, then you will know. You may have to run down road with a gauge on mirror bracket

absolutely will not. He has other issues. and why does op think that 180 degree thermostats will help with this setup. Not gonna help with tuning issue. even with for example 190 degree t-stat, they gonna be open full flow. 4 core rad should be sufficient

A buddy of mine installed one on his 3406E. His exhaust temps came way down. Not sure if he has a standard 4 core or not. But they make a 4 core with dimples rated up to 1000 hp

Just throwing this out there- I had an 05 379 with an Acert that had been 6nz,d. ECM, head, low comp industrial pistons, single turbo, blah, blah, blah. Supposed to have been set around 600hp. It kept wanting to heat and fast even with new hi perf radiator and cac. Kept me scared to death of frying it. But I also started to notice fan wasn't always kicking on at the right temp. Got to checking with temp gun and reading ecm events and decided gauge must be off. Replaced both temp senders and gauge and it seemed to help for a few days then same nail biting xx. So I bought a Scangauge D. I found it handy for lots of functions but mainly water temp. I could see what the ecm was reading which pretty well coincided with my ir temp gun checks. Just gave up on the Peterbilt dash gauge and watched the readout.

The idea behind the lower temp t-stats was to get cool water going though the engine at a lower temperature so its cooling sooner and theoretically giving a little more time before it's warm enough I need to get out of it. I'm running a 4 core now. I talked with a couple local guys recently that are also running big power 6nz, they basically told me get used to it haha. Only one of them said he could keep it at 190-200 and he had to put a 5 row radiator in to accomplish that.
I kinda wonder if my bumper is affecting airlflow. The one in my avatar deal is what I'm running and it sure seems like 12" of pipe blocking the inlet to the grill could be enough to slow some air down. But maybe I'm just spending too much time thinking about it.
