Hello to all of the truck drivers out there.
I would like your advice, help on how to find the problem on my truck, and any suggestions would be welcomed..
The problem:
I have a 2005 Freghtliner Century with a DD 60 series and today it gave me these issues:
The temperature goes high, coolant level is fine.
Low oil pressure, oil level is fine.
Voltmeter gauge says almost 16.
RPM Needle drops too quick to 600 and it does not let me change the gears. I have to double tap it in order to change it.
It does not have the right power to pull forward when I try to accelerate on highway.
All these things came up today and I do not know what to do.
I have spent so much in this truck by fixing the problems, but the more I fix and pay the more those come up.
I cannot go on the long deliveries because I am afraid that I might get stuck out there.

Ecm problem

I'd address the 16 volts your voltmeter is showing before attempting to diagnose anything else. Verify at the alternator, then at each battery.
I would assume a battery cable issue first, which could definitely cause other faults to appear.Rookie2020 and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
matter of fact. you have a ecm wire going to the battery. has a fuse in line with it

Check your grounds.

Sounds like it's derating from something grounding out. Find a good electrical tech.

Check and see if the alternator is actually putting out 16V. Simple test with a voltmeter. Red lead on the B+ black lead to a good clean ground, if it is putting out 16V the regulator in the alternator is screwing up. Replace the alt. I had a similar issue a few years ago on a Cat. When you start getting up over 15V you are above the voltage operating range for the ECM and will get funny reading or shut down.
Clean up the grounds regardless if the alternator is the cause or not.truckdriver31 and Rookie2020 Thank this.
