Jost jsk37USB. New jaws, cushion ring and double tension springs. Can adjust it til its correct and tight but when loaded, the weight pulling back against it causes the slack to appear where it slams forward and back on start/stop. Cant figure this out. Doesnt really happen when empty. When it does this you can see that the release handle protrudes more and more from the side of fifth wheel as its works slack into jaws. Can take cheater bar and knock handle back in and jaws tighten back up. Dont the double springs supposed to keep lock bar tight? Everything looks good so WTC?

On my Jost the release handle drops down into the bottom of the slot when it couple's. There is a cutout on the handle that keeps it locked in place. To release the handle I have to lift it out of the slot. Perhaps something is keeping it from falling down into the lock position. It may actually be adjusted to tight to close and lock all the way.

The handle is one piece. The slot that it goes through is a bit of a z shape. The bottom area is where it locks.

If you look at the release handle you can see that it gets wider once it enters the plate. That wide spot is the lock. If it locks correctly it cannot be pushed or pulled out without lifting it up first.

There is adjustment to tighten or loosen the position that it locks in. Check the Jost website. They have rebuild instructions and the adjustments are described at the end of the article.
