Well I'm in Harborcreek, Pa for the night. Got 3 Central trucks here. Wonder if any of them are on the forum, if so, I'm in the brown Transam truck. Comae wake me up and say hi but only after 0600 please.
Dang!!! Where are all the trucks today.? lol Bet I didn't see more than 50 or 60 all day. Heck- -theres only 25 or 30 here at the TA.
I would say Merry Christmas to all but I'm more the Bah Humbug type so......a Merry Bah Humbug to all out there.
So....ya'll think you made your point about the leasing bit? Check out JCT if your really interested about leasing. You'll actually own your own truck with them if you finish it.

I got a quick question. I was talking to my uncle who has been driving a truck for about 6 years. I was telling him about the 2 week training through Central. He insisted that a newbie couldn't learn to shift & back well enough to pass the state CDL exam in 2 weeks. Is this true? If I knew how to do all these things I wouldn't need training. This has made me a little nervous. Also, I know these choices may not be popular but between the two - which is the better? The 3 week course with C1 or the 2 week course with Central? All comments are appreciated...

Your right!!
You can make money if you have a decent FM who keeps you moving!
You can do ok if ya train!
JJ has been a Lease Op for almost 2 years and when his Army Reserve pay is more then he makes at Central in a week its time to call it quits, for us anyway.
We will miss the lifestyle and the friends we have made here on the Forum, but for us, the army for JJ and me Catering ####tail Parties will be much more Lucrative!
In a few years when JJ retires from the army we will probably get back into truckin but not with Central, to many changes and not enough rewards for your time.
1Bad, We will be long gone when you get there if they open up the roads that is. -

It's been a while since I posted. I honestly felt excluded from the conversation, and that could be more me than reality. Nevertheless, if there is someone who actually pays attention to the posts that aren't from your regular contributors, then I have something to say about the leasing. There is definitely something not ethical, and probably not completely legal, about their leasing program. If I had the money, I would definitely pursue this aspect of the leasing program, which hasn't been addressed. The main issue is that as a L/O you are considered to be your own business by the company. However, unlike being your own company, you are at the mercy of the miles that the company throws your way. Yes, you can turn them down, but can you go elsewhere to make up those miles? No, you cannot. If Central has nothing to give you, or little to give you, you cannot make up those miles by hauling for someone else. That does not make you an independant operator, that makes you quite dependant. From all the research I have put into this aspect, I can tell you that there is someway that they are circumventing tax laws concerning this aspect of the lease, and if they are using some loophole, that same loop hole can be used against them. IN addition, I know for a fact that there is a legal loop hole that will allow lease operators to get out of their leases, which has to do with a law that states that if they are preventing you from earning a living that you have grounds to get out of any contract that binds you to that company. I know that if there was someone willing to put this to the test with a willing lawyer, Central would have to change their leasing policies. Leasing with Central is an unwise decision. If you follow the money, and you take into account their actions, you can see that leasing is not in the leasors benifit, quite the contrary. They get government funding for the training, then they put you out there to drive for a while, then they push you to lease. If you lease, even if you finish out your lease, they will not let you go back to being a company driver. Why? Because they cannot afford to take up a truck that is needed to provide a trainee with training. Central is a company that found a way to make money through training, and leasing, and not through hauling. Central is an excellent way to start a career in trucking, but not one to stay in as a driver. Before my better half got snared into the leasing program, I looked into the program and warned him profusely. He learned the hard way, that the leasing program is a trap, with no other way to pay the lease, other than whatever miles they throw your way. I also know that legally, they cannot hold you to the lease of that truck should you walk away from it. Yes, it will go on your DAC, but they will not pursue you through creditors. Reason being, is that it is a third party lease, and in the end Central is responsible for the payment, should you decide not to pay it. It is the same way the legal system would handle you if you sublet an apartment from someone else. In the end, the landlord would not hold the subletter responsible for the lease, but would hold the person to whom he leased the apartment. Yet, Central will try to scare you into staying even when they know that they are allowing you the mileage to make those payments. Why? because they don't want to get stuck paying that truck after you walk away. They run their business like a pyramid scheme. I guess, my point is, DON'T LEASE FROM CENTRAL, especially if you have a family that is counting on your sole income.
