From what I've been told, the biggest problem with idling is the increased use of the EGR at idle along with it not regenning at idle causes soot to build up in the oil a lot faster. Of course that causes increased wear on the engine and all the exhaust system components as well.singlescrewshaker, clausland, Rocks and 9 others Thank this.

If you idle for 10 hrs it won't require a parked regen. About 24 to 30 hrs is common.singlescrewshaker, BigBob410, Brettj3876 and 7 others Thank this.

With these emissions systems today, idle time just kills them. They need to run at certain temps and flow rates. At idle you just can’t get that.
APU systems will soon be standard equipment.
With new fuel mileage and emissions standards coming up, there is no other way to make it work.singlescrewshaker, Rocks, Eldiablo and 10 others Thank this. -
Change of scenery......

The 579s I've been in had battery apu in them. Not a fan at all of the early ones. They'd go dead about 8 hours in.
The company I worked for had just started getting newer ones that had an auto start/stop feature to recharge the apu batteries when they got low when I left.singlescrewshaker, Eldiablo, Brettj3876 and 5 others Thank this. -
I'm not going to lie about it,, I'm very ignorant when it comes to the new stuff. I've never owned a emissions truck and hopefully never will. So I have absolutely no idea about how they work at all.singlescrewshaker, clausland, D.Tibbitt and 8 others Thank this.

So... listen to this...lol
Delivered outside savannah and took a nucor load out of huger,SC. By the time I got here and checked in, the guard to me the load canceled.......#### you not! The broker got me another load fairly quickly, but dang.... I'm not liking this trend at all. Starting to really suck.singlescrewshaker, clausland, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 11 others Thank this. -
Yep, I've heard these drivers say to just bump up the rpm and it'll be fine. Try to explain to them that higher rpm means even more soot being dumped back into the engine. I think they just want to idle their trucks, and find some way to justify it in their own minds.
Old school motors, we ran them almost 24/7, but these emissions engines it just kills them.
Another poster in another thread worded it something like... Put a pipe from your rear end to your mouth and see how you feel. Which is very true, and pushing it through faster doesn't help, you just get sicker faster.singlescrewshaker, clausland, D.Tibbitt and 11 others Thank this. -
Lookin over the truck this afternoon getting read to start cutting I found a loose bolt on the bottom side of the turbo flange. Got er tightened up and will report back if we get any increase in boost and decrease in flutter sound
