If it’s not raining and not to hot or cold the driver side window is down and the passenger side is about halfway down.
I can honestly say I have never been hit by flying debris in over 43 years of driving. Maybe a bug or two but never a recap or a car part.

Drivers side window is usually down at least 6" if its between -10° and 90°, unless its pouring rain. Fewer bugs than if its all the way down, and I can hear my truck as I roll. Off side window usually down 2-3" so it can suck the flies out.
