I'm in Houston now, they dodged a bullet, hit a little drizzle on the way down I-45 today but nothing major. Guy unloading me said Baytown had some wind and had lines down but nothing to serious.

A lot depends on the mill or yard it’s coming from.
Also what the product is. Some may not require you to tarp. Kiln dried or hard woods, will most likely be tarped. Wrapped may only need a smoke tarp to keep the front clean and the wrapping from getting torn up. How to load all depends on the bunks. The loaders at the mill usually know what they are doing, wouldn’t worry too much about that. You will probably have to put belly straps on. Just make sure that what will be put on top does not sit on the strap.
Some people don’t think wood needs edge protection. It does, have seen a lot of straps get cut by wood.
Do you know what mill or yard it’s coming out of?singlescrewshaker, Flint1, PoleCrusher and 9 others Thank this. -
Let me give you a bit of advice....most everything in the northwest/west pays like crap. Why? Who knows....just the way it is. That is why I can't afford to haul local. it pays like crap and you suck down overpriced NW fuel because of the mountains and wind. Fuel is around $4 a gallon by the house.....why?...and has been for some time now. Suckssinglescrewshaker, Flint1, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this.

Yes, and my experience with two different trucks was favorable. I'm pretty warm-blooded and never suffered once and I never turned my Opti-Idle on because it was always running when I woke up the next day. Currently have a Carrier APU and while there are pros/cons to both systems, if I was planning to be home weekly I wouldn't hesitate spec'ing a battery APU in a Freightliner. Seems like less trouble and I honestly felt it cooled as good or better in higher temps.Tug Toy, singlescrewshaker, Flint1 and 6 others Thank this.

This truck and last truck had battery based systems. The truck has an auto start as well. With very good quality batteries it rarely starts during the break. Systems seem to do well. The heat is a fuel fired hydronic, keeps the engine warm as well as the cab. Cooling side can struggle some when the temps are over 100+. Usually idle for a bit to get the cab really cooled down, then go battery system. Windshield curtains really help for both heat and cool. The thing that I like, no engine noise and vibration.
Tug Toy, singlescrewshaker, Flint1 and 5 others Thank this.
