I dont care for the XM channels offered on Sirius :biggrin_25512:

I would have added the XM music channels, hopefully in the future they will !!!

It seems they are keeping both companies and recievers seperate...

I'm hoping to get out on the road soon and I'm in a toss up between XM and Sirius satellite. My girlfriend has XM and I could get it through her package for $6.95 a month. It has similar music programs and it has the NHL on it which is a large selling point for me. Sirius has NFL and Formula 1, plus Sirius has more Conservative talk radio than XM does. I think Sirius actually plays the Sean Hannity radio show as well as Hannity and Colmes. Does anyone know if the 2 will combined? If I can get all those channels I'd be happy.:biggrin_25515:

All of the following info was relayed to me through a customer service rep when I called about adding the XM channels to my subscription.

All current radios WILL continue to receive the programming from the company they were designed for (XM will still get XM, and Sirius will get Sirius).

You will need to buy a NEWER radio to be able to get access to the programming from the opposing sides. So for me to get the XM channels, I would have to buy another $100+ radio, which I feel is not yet worth it. I like my simple little radio from 2 years ago.

I thought Glen Beck was played on Sirius? Anyway, the programming is NOT supposed to change, you will just be able to have more selections.

If only they had thought of that.

    Ok, here's the skinny:

Sirius and XM subscribers will still receive all the programming they enjoy now, but will be able to add "packages" to that selection.

The first "package" offered (With O&A, etc..)is not going to be the only one. Later this fall they're supposed to release more programming. You will be able to select what you do and don't want similarly to cable providers' "Premium Channel" packages.

In short, they have found a way to get people to spend a crap-load more money on satellite radio, without having to increase the number of channels.

You will have to buy a Summer 2008 or newer radio.
You will have to pay extra for the packages.

I am waiting until they offer a package that gives me both of the trucking channels, and indy racing. I honestly prefer Sirius' programming, but they don't do much in the way of live programs on the weekends.

All current satillite radios can be used to get the "Best Of" from the other company.

    From the Sirius website...
What about my current receiver? Do I need to buy a new one?
No not unless you need a new one. You existing WILL NOT BECOME OBSOLETE. You will still be able to enjoy Sirius or XM as you have been in the past.

    From the XM website...
Will my current XM radio get The Best of SIRIUS?
Yes. All current XM radios can receive The Best of SIRIUS.

I can tell you this much. You'll want the external antenna. That goes on your side mirror. The dash one sucks.

XM Sirius is old hat IMO. I’ve just streamed music the past 5 years. Plenty of options for music, news and podcasts. Usually on Spotify as family member put me on his plan. You can use Spotify free but then there’s limitations.
