Not really. What is happening is all the cell companies are deactivating the 3g towers next year. I don't care enough to remember who is doing it when, but they all will be gone.
What that means is any ELD that requires 3g to function will then not work and need to be replaced.

 

Not actually turning them off. Mainly just not repairing them when they break. So a gradual loss of service vs a lights out moment. I'm sure they'll eventually shut off the ones that still work some day, but I haven't heard about a deadline for that yet.

ETA: I'm already seeing increasing outages in remote areas with my remaining 3G unit. Already got a new 4G model to go in my new truck when it gets delivered in about 2 weeks. Once I get that one running, I'll order a new one for the other truck and be up to date for now.

 

I have 30 of the new ones now, waiting for the rest. Qualcom said certain things will not be retained after 1/1/22 on their servers. Anyone want about $35K worth of the old ones? LOL

 

Crazy as it sounds most elog companies are skipping 4g and going straight to 5G that ought to be interesting in remote areas lol

 

Im concerned about his too. I guess you didn’t get any trade in for the old ones?

Trade in? LOL Does MS give you trade in when they discontinue a product? Like everything right now, there is a shortage.

 

check out this thread where I brought it up and @Dieselboss is saying that they will let you trade them in. That is why I was curious.
