Im in the market for a scanner tool. Ive looked at JPRO and bosch, now I know they are two totally different price points but wondering what recommendations are out there.

I've been looking at a Snap On Pro Link Edge starter pack, but a lot of people told me to look into JPro. I don't like the idea of an active subscription with JPro, but it does have a lot of nice features. At least with the Pro Link I can use it as long as I have it, and pay for updates when I decide I need them. I just need it for side jobs, but if you have a shop, JPro might be the better option. Outside of OEM software of course.

Im asking from an owner operator point of view. Ive watched a few videos on the JPro and really like the interface and even the step by step guide to fix issues but at the 5-7k price range I'm trying to see if its actually worth the investment. Other code readers like the bosch or diesel laptop handheld will just tell me what codes they are but i dont know if they go into detail like the JPro or snapon pro link

As an O/O I don't know that it would be worth it. With the internet, there's a lot of info available if you can just get a fault code number. And the "step by step" guides can be hit or miss. Some of them seem really generic. Like "P2002 = Check your DPF or 4364 fmi 18= poor def quality". But I have limited experience with JPro, so take it for what it's worth.

If it can clear codes it can possibly get you out of a jam as well.

We have Diesel Laptops PFDiagnose, and Paccar Davie4 installed on a laptop. Very new to both of them, but for the price point, was surprised at the functionality of PFdiagnose. Will read and clear codes on your pickup or your truck, give operating info, just not much for actual troubleshooting. Davie4 does everything for the Paccar engines, very in depth. I was recommended to go with OE software for our engines. Think it was a good idea.
    Much cheaper than JPro.
