If you finally replace that iPad whatever you choose I suggest taking a few minutes to see if you can find a case for it that might insulate the device from that abuse!Bumper Thanks this. -
That’s what I’d do until after I bought the million other necessities I didn’t realize I needed.
Seriously, get the money rolling in first and then see what luxurious you can afford.
Get him some McDonald gift certificates for his birthday..something he’ll actually need -

Recommend samsungs cert preowned, direct from site. Get a 1-2 year old model thats essentially brand new at at least 25-50% off
Did note 4, 8, on the 10 now.
Get an otterbox, no other case compares, even for apple. My note 8 went through 2 cases before battery life started to be a problem, still works, have it in truck as backup.
Samsung repairability is as bad as apple, but there are like 2 good phones that exist that even have repairability as a viable option, think theyre both european models only.
You buy a high dollar device, arent allowed to tinker with it, and gotta replace every 3-4 years.... sounds like trucks these days -
As I said in an earlier comment. I have an iPad 4th Gen I bought in 2013. Still boots up and does everything I need it to do. It is currently sitting in a drawer off and fully charged. It's not a given a high-end device will fail in 3 or 4 years. I do agree with the DIY fixing them.

Just FYI. I highly doubt most active drivers will qualify, but the VA does provide an iPad device to Veterans. 2nd LINK. The device I looked at several months ago was small and had a real tight MDM profile on it. However, the Veteran loved it as it allowed him to stay in contact with his medical providers at the VA. In another thread, I was talking about having an iPad that uses cellular data. I was reminded of that program after writing my last comment in that thread. Mine is a regular size iPad and I bought it and pay for the data. The VA devices also come with cellular data.
ANYBODY that knows a Veteran that might be able to use such a device should let them know about it. According to my information, all they have to do is contact the VA PCM.
Not meaning to hijack this thread, but all you Veterans should be checking out some of the things the VA offer. You can get Sleep Studies either done at the VA or through VA Community care program. The VA also provides CPAP machines. Another thing is PER the FAST act VA providers are to start doing DOT Physicals. I have asked about this and so far I have not heard it has started. Hopefully, it will get un-stuck soon!Bumper Thanks this.
