Had a conversation with a woman that wanted to “tone.” When I hear someone say that they want to tone, that usually means that they are thinking that they can buy some fruity workout program or some sort of equipment that’s so easy to use that people smile when using it. Do you really want to change your look, or do you want to waste your time and resources? It it is easy, it is ineffective. Anyone telling you anything otherwise is deceiving you.
Speaking of deception, I have seen personal trainers get people in the gym, run them around a circuit of various weight machines, make you sweat, and then send them on their way. They ask you about your fitness goals and then give you a seemingly effective workout, but in actuality it was a terrible workout. How do I know? The fastest, most effective route is FREEWEIGHTS.
Woman: But Six, I don’t want to look like a man!
The only women who look like men in the gym looked like a dude before she ever touched the iron. Like the catcher on the girl’s softball team. Big and burly and square jaw that would rival Hewey Lewis. If that not you, then the only way you’re going to look like a man is jacking up your hormones by using steroids. Go hit that iron as hard as you want. You will always look feminine.
One of the worse things you will ever see is one of those big fools on steroids with the big bulging stomachs because their organs are swollen. Nasty stuff.
Guy: But Six, I don’t want to get really big and bulky.
How many really big guys do you see in a gym? I’m talking a real gym, not one of those sidewalk sissy joints like Planet Fitness. In a real gym, there will usually only be a couple of the really big hulking guys. They work out 6 hours a day and eat over 12000 calories (and shooting up in the bathroom…dangerous stuff).
You don’t have to live in a gym to look great. Most of the people in a gym nowadays have to stay there for hours on end because half the time they’re supposedly working out, they’re playing on the phone. Get in, get to work, hit it as hard as you possibly can and get out. Leave the phone in the car.
Have your mind made up on what you are going to accomplish for that workout before you get there. Stay on point and you should reach your goals in a few months.
Luck in battle.

I hate those people who bring their phones into the gym. I needed the leg press during a session a while back. I hit 3 sets on 3 different movements while the chick on the leg press was JUST starting her second set.

They have these Tonal and Peloton smart gyms with these incredible looking people and they sell you on this idea that their machines are the very best way to go. It is a very expensive coat rack. I’m not saying that they won’t work. I am saying that they won’t work anywhere as well as advertised. Yes, it’s better than lounging on the sofa, but not for serious fitness goals.Boondock, 86scotty, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this. -

Another aspect that is overlooked in diet and fitness and keeping yourself in good shape is you don’t need to kill yourself in the gym if your diet is on the mark. I lost 22 pounds in the past month. Sticking to my low-carb high-protein diet. I’m currently not lifting any weights at all but I walk about 3 to 5 miles three or four days per week. And yes I walk anywhere that I can when I stop the truck. You can literally get away with have to work out if you’re eating properly. I know people who only work out a couple times a month and they’re relatively fit and toned because they keep their diet in check.

I tend to go through phases, mentally. I like being in the gym for a couple months, then I start to get annoyed by some of the idiots that go there. So I take a break for a week or so and workout at home. I only have enough weight to load my bar to 305 so I focus on high rep hypertrophy for that time period.
I did a few sets of squats and hack squats at 160 lbs for 20-25 reps and a few sets of high rep deadlifts at 305 lbs last night. Definitely taxes the body differently than just squatting 335 lbs for 1-2 reps.Trucker61016 and Lennythedriver Thank this.
