How much does everyone make hauling fuel and getting paid by the load? Theres a company down the street from me and apparently, their trucks sit alot. Drivers work about 3-4 days a week. Ive seen alot of other carriers in the area always running but this particular company usually not so much.

If they pay by the load, and their trucks sit, then that is not a company you want to work for.

The amount per load is going to vary depending on what market you're in. Back when I was hauling fuel about 10 years ago locals paid $35 and you got an extra $10 or $15 if you did a split.

I wouldn't go back to hauling fuel by the load, there's too much money lost sitting and waiting at the rack.

Would there be companies that pay per hr for a valid class "a" but new to hazmat?

Yes there are. Gemini Motor Transport (Love's Travel Centers) is one of them.

Love’s/Gemini Motor Transport. $30/hr base wage in PNW. I believe it’s $25/hr in the rest of the country but don’t hold me to that.

It probably depends on where you’re located. At my store, we can’t get out below 60 hrs/week and they’ll gladly give us 70. Personally, I’d like to work something more like 50 - but it is what it is. From what I hear from our DEF drivers (sleeper cabs), they do 70 every week.

If I liked longer drives, I’d switch to being a DEF driver in a heartbeat. Same pay and no hazmat, FR, etc.
