Tipping at Subway ?

I could just give him a "tip".....

I believe in ignoring poorly behaved children. *nods* Not rewarding them with gift certificates.

Did you have a good Christmas WCP? Did ya get a tie from the kids?

 

I had a great Christmas....no ties this year....
Hand made scarves and beanies for the cold weather from my kids.....better than anything from the stores....

That is so awesome that they did that for you! And yes much better than from the stores.

We were blessed financially this year, so unlike last year lol.

It's been a wonderful Christmas, our foster daughter is in from Texas so I've got both my girls here. My family is so loving and good to me. I received an abundance of gifts. And selfish woman that I am.....I like it. LOL

I think my favorite is my new bunk warmer for the truck. LOL Actually my favorite are the snow globes my 11 year old grandson helped his 3 year old brothers make for me. I collect Christmas snow globes and usually add one each year. I decided not to this year and he knew that. So now I have three new ones. The best of the collection.

 

Okay, let's think about this for a minute. If restaurants did what you suggested, and either raised server wages OR raised the price of the food to include a "standard" tip....what do you think is going to happen to the overall quality of your service? When your waitress no longer has any sort of incentive to give a flip about you, or whether or not your drinks are full? Your sit-down dining experience will become no different than dining at Burger King, with some half-stoned high schooler waiting tables and drooling on your table.

Your server is going to be paid THE SAME for every single table, no matter how good or how poor his/her service is. No drink refills, orders all wrong? Dry meat? Spit in your salad? Who cares? Without the tip system, there is no incentive for the server to give you a higher level of service. And if the food prices include the tip- essentially you are being FORCED to tip that person even if they gave you horrid service.

A GOOD server at a mid priced restaurant can make over $200 a night in tips. Had a friend who served at a high-end restaurant in Orlando and he said weekend nights it wasn't uncommon for him to take home $500 a night. He LOVES people, loves serving, loved his job....because in essence, he was rewarded with money for being friendly & gregarious. Every night he was eager to go out and give people excellent service...and because he was such a good waiter, people tipped him accordingly.

Get rid of the tip system, and a guy like that may see his income drop by half. Do you think the GOOD servers are going to stay in the industry when they lose the ability to earn "extra money" by giving "extra service"?? No....the servers out there who are good at their jobs aren't going to stand for a pay cut....they'll be replaced by slackers who are happy to be paid full wages for half the work.

The prospect of getting a decent tip encourages servers to work a little harder at giving you the best possible service. It doesn't always happen, that's when you have the choice to NOT TIP. Eventually, the servers who are habitually rude & inattentive will get sick of working for $2.30 an hour and will realize they are in the wrong industry. Meanwhile, the GOOD servers who make your dining experience pleasurable will still be happy with their jobs.

Tipping isn't a "scam"- but it does provide an extra-income incentive for the employee- wages directly based on ability. Encourages good service. Why else would restaurants have adhered to the system for so long?

 

Why tip at the subway. Last time i was at the loves in el paso the fat chick was making a pizza and she was mentioning oh soo much grease. I should of just told her keep your grease. Why tip when the people aren't even decent enough to not comment on the food your about to eat. If they really want a good tip you better serve up some good food that doesn't require radiation to heat up.

 

My dad and brother say you're supposed to tip at Sonic. That's a fast food place, so IMO, no tip required. I don't tip at Subway or anywhere there is a tip jar. Begging for a tip means no tip from me. I do tip at restaurants and hair stylists. I have been known to leave no tip at all if I have to get my own drink or call the waiter/waitress over to the table several times.
