If you've heard only good things about May, keep reading.
I remember May's help-wanted ad used to be in the Salt Lake Tribune as regular as clockwork, as in 'every day of the world'. As this was the case, it wasn't a company I was interested in.
I've read posts here that make me believe that nothing has changed at that company. -
Thanks for the info I will keep digging. I have awhile before I get my CDL so I'm researching the Companies now . Any companies that anybody would recommend would be great..
-
Before we can make anything other than general recommendations, we need to know where you live. I can make an assumption of somewhere out west, possibly more towards the Pacific NW area, but that's strictly a guess on my part.

Personally, I wouldn't take to heart the info Tip has given u. Unless you want to buy into wacked out theories about conspiracies in the trucking industry with the government.
As I've stated in many posts, the individual driver's success with any company is directly dependent on that driver's attitude and personal lifestyle. I'm single and have no kids, therefore I have basically "lived" out of my truck for the majority of my career. I did own a house for the first couple years of my being a driver and was able to afford it quite comfortably. I didn't see much of it, except for a few months of dedicated running. That house burned this past summer, so now I'm back to living in the truck. This is not the only way to be a success, mind you. I have friends who are home every weekend and make a great living for their families. It's up to you what you make of it no matter which company you go with. They're all essentially the same, at least in regards to the larger carriers. If you think May will work out for you in the area you live in, then go for it. I personally have talked with several of their drivers and haven't heard any complaints that aren't standard gripes in the industry. -
I agree with the above. If you want to look at a company, do more indepth research than merely looking to seee if they have an ad in the paper, and then crossing them off the list because they do. Take some time, hit up various sites and use the search feature, wander down to the local truckstop and see if you can find some of their trucks and drivers, and actually get out and get the info needed to make a solid decision. I heve never heard anything negative about May trucking, but I rarely encounter them a lot here in the midwest. From what I recall, they are mainly a west cosat based carrier, and do a lot more on that side of the river than they do the eastern side.
Another good one if you are in that part of the country to look into is Watkins and Shepherd out of Montana. -
Thanks Scarecrow,Burky. I have been going to the local truck stop most everyday to talk to drivers. sometimes its hard to catch them. I think the people at the restuarant may think I'm up to no good cause sometime I just drive trhu If I don't see a driver. But I have talk to a few are they seem to be pretty positive about what they are doing. I have thought for a long time that all the gripes may just be P***** of driver for a particular company . Its all in the attitude . I do Live out west in Washington . I have also been on these forums reading what I can . So thanks for all the info I really appreciate it . THANKS :smt038

I love it. Wacked out theories? Obviously this means my theory that "a company that advertises every day of the world sucks" is a wild and wooly idea.
Yeah, better watch that one. This outrageous, nutty claim is too much for some guys to handle, which is why they
can always be seen at orientations every few weeks. They look in newspapers to find their driving jobs. Don't follow these idiots, Hawk.
Ignore the Tipmeister at your own risk, brother. Go get a job for one of those companies with help-wanteds in papers every day and see what happens. May used to be one of those, and for good reason. After reading posts here and around the web about May, I don't think anything has changed at that company.
Be sure to read some of my other more recent posts, Hawk, and then make up your own mind. I've been out there and know what's up, man, at least when it comes to the bigger outfits. -
Tip, I know you think you are the omnicient being of the "bigger outfits", but man, you are just way too far out there for any red-blooded, hard-working, flag waving, not-afraid-to-work-hard-without-complaining person to buy into. ESPECIALLY when you don't even have a friggin' CDL anymore. From all of your "wisdom" all I've been able to get out of it is this: Because of your poor, uneducated, and unwise decisions to work for such companies as Swift, EVERY major carrier in the trucking industry is tied into some sort of conspiracy with the government. Suck it up man. Truckin' ain't for sissies. Which could be why you're not in trucking anymore.
