I've been driving for 19 years. Been at a company or two. Marten has a couple of stupid rules but over all I think it is a good place to work. You have to take the good and the bad. Act like a professional and do your job. No place is perfect and when you work for some one else you have to follow there rules. This is a fact any where. You don't like the rules. Get your own truck and make your own rules.

    I recommend against working regional.

They told me home every 5 days, then home every 5-7 days, finally when I got to the dispatcher she said home 6 days out of the month. You figure, if OTR gets 1 day home for every 5 worked that's 5 days off a month. So you're taking a few cents less per mile for the privilege of ONE extra day a month.

Plus the runs are short. If your average length of haul is a few hundred miles less that extra 3 cents per mile doesn't make up the difference. I think if you have a good dispatcher and do OTR and a little luck you'll do better with this company than you would with most other major motor carriers.

The question for me at this point was, considering all the cutbacks these companies have made in the last 2 years is OTR trucking even worth it anymore? For me, it wasn't. But that's just me and my situation.

If you like getting 1800 miles a week and sitting the rest of the time then Marten is your baby. If you like earning REAL money then look elsewhere.

Ive been seriously considering becoming a blue bird after the 1st of the year. I have a couple questions that I had no luck in searching for that maybe you current Marten driver can help me with. I know with having a fleet truck there will be some restricitons as to what you can do with their truck. Mainly my question is that I have collected alot of stuff including my Connex radio, Monkey Made antennas, refrigerator, inverter, a small flat screen, my gps, and xm radio and other small little gadgets. Will Marten allow one to install these into their trucks, without drilling any holes of course? I know some companies wont even allow a driver to change the cb just wondering where Marten stands.

Marten has APU's on every truck. They put in a 1800 watt inverter. Any other inverters you want have to be plug in. no wiring to the batteries. they will let you run anything you want. I have it all, 17" flat screen, DVD, lap top, sat radio, Ref., microwave, toaster oven everything. One of the best things about Marten is that APU.
