Wish I could buy your setup, but $80k is a bit (quite a bit, actually) out of my reach and I have no experience pulling RGN. I hope you'll find a good buyer.
Also, it appears the new CARB smog law will be implemented to the whole state of CA, not just L.A. port. Just the other day, an O/O friend of mine leasing onto NorthAmerican's high value division (STI) called me to tell me they were on their last CA run. They are close to retirement and there's no sense dropping $25k for upgrades.
I'm stuck in CA for the moment, so I guess I'll have to get a truck with a '04 and newer engine. It seems most trucks I've seen have engines one year older than the truck's model year, so it's probably safe for me to shop around for a '05 or newer truck.
One good news is I think I found a good used trailer locally. It comes with a set of lumber tarps and other equipments, and it is affordable. That will help offset the higher truck payment, compared to lease-purchasing a trailer.
Merry Chrismas to you all! -
I worked thier, good co. good freight, 75% of load. Lots of load areas nice co.

The port of Long Beach & LA have stricter smog rules then the state of California. 2001 & older trucks are not permitted into the port after 12/31/2009 without the retro fit. But those trucks are still capable of hauling freight in & out of the state of California.
Now I believe in is 2012 when they begin phasing out trucks of 2001 & older on the state level unless a retrofit has been installed. -
Hmmm, I guess I was mistaken?
My friend pulls a climate-controlled trailer (it's like a household van, but with a reefer unit on), and he mentioned he didn't get a new smog-compliant trailer.
Maybe his reefer unit will be banned in the entire state right away? I'll have to check with him.
Would be great if I can get a cheaper tractor just to get me started. -
Reefers have their own rules. Since I pull a flatbed, I don't pay to much attention to the reefer rules. I do know they are stricter then the truck rules, so he may not be able to enter the state of idiocy any longer.Last edited: Dec 24, 2009

I'm thinking about going to Mercer and pulling a dry van, anyone know how their dryvan freight is running?
-
I have 2 GF that pull vans....in my opinion I would take a flat over that ANY day.....I think they are slower than we are.....we have run pretty good this year compared to last......the last 2 weeks have been rotten DUE to the fact that the rearend was going out so the truck HAD to come back home and so we are using the holiday week to get the work done. Intend to be back at it by Friday and ready to deliver come Monday Jan 4......
shogun Thanks this.
