Old Dominion Freight Line (this company hires new cdl school grads from approved schools)
8950 Maislin Dr, Tampa, FL 3363
This is a company people stick around and retire from.
Some terminals have a "Dock to Driver" program where you're paid to work the dock and train for your CDL-A.

I'd put Old Dominion Freight Lines as a first choice.

Your screen names rings a bell. Do you have a relative or son that was wanting to become a trucker, a year or so ago?

Do you get a finder fee ? You should, I was on a couple other threads and the amount of info you share is incredible. I see these trucks on 75 all the time. I’ll reach out to them tomorrow.

Nope. My father was a pilot. It was his call sign. I grew up in Hawaii and Far East. When he retired he bought a van to travel US it had a CB, so it became his Handle. I adopted it after he passed away.

Thanks for being here. I’m a sponge and will be picking your brains for sure. Hopefully one day I can be the one sharing.

No fee; wouldn't accept a fee if it was offered. This forum is my hobby.

Good luck. I'm in Jupiter and I can give you my experience. Paid for school myself, went to PRIME, stayed for 2 months of the training but came home due to a medical issue and decided to stay and look for something local. I was never able to even get an interview with anything other than food/Beverage service (sysco, Coremark, Coke). Having spoken to and witnessed the amount of physical work these guys do (My wife is a restaurant manager) I was advised by every one of them to stay away. The job is for younger men. I have been interested in LTL stuff. Estes P & D type stuff. If has some physicality to it and you aren't trapped behind the wheel for alone in your rolling cubicle for 11hrs, 5 days a week. Even Tanker stuff where you get out run hoses, fuel etc. Anyway, with my lack of experience I haven't been able to even get an interview with a CDL and a completely clean DMV 50 years old. It seems like in other places in the country they are begging for drivers but not FL. You may have to go OTR or try to stick it out with a food service delivery job for a year. That's my experience so far man. Good luck!
