The requirements: 5 years experience OTR, No points or accidents-3 years, pass a mechanical abilities test, current passport, ability to be self motivated, pass a physical (that would make Dr Michael Baden shiver). ...
I figured, no problem--so when I asked about the rate of pay.............$9.00 an hour !!!!!! My jaw dropped, so he noticed my disappointment and assured me that I could get 40 hours every week !!! I don't believe this stuff !! This wasn't some small outfit, it was a state university !!!! Sad............Oh well, back to hitting the bricks !!!

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
I turned down a job today !!

That is ridiculous.... No that is insulting... $9.00 and hour for an experienced driver of 5 years, mechanically able and squeaky clean...

And this will continue..since there is so many "rookies" with CDLs and little experience, these companies can offer bottom wage and get someone to take it!
-
not so much rookies. just a lot of drivers out of work. The companies can be picky on who they hire. two years ago. most would take any warm body to drive for them. It's A whole new story now.

Driving for a state University. Here's my take. Easy working conditions, great benefits, weekends off, no layoffs, maintained equipment, pay raises, paid vacation, job security, fair treatment, so who cares if you have to bunk in with the in-laws?

That sounds about as bad as the temp. circuit class b job I left in San Diego and went back to OTR. Only made 9.75/hr running class b, and the rare class a gig only paid 13.50, and that was VERY rare.
The local scene was looking really bad then... seems things haven't changed much. -
