Thing’s sure are different in the tanker world!!
You had better have the proper documentation on what’s in that tank. And YOU the driver had better know what you are hauling!

even as an O/O ,do you unseal a trailer and open boxes.

no. you go by the BOL.

everyone should look at your doc's. especially a Haz-Mat load,

but there is only so much you are allowed to do.

That's true, but they're not required to be listed in ways that humans can readily perceive. I once hauled a DoD load that had nothing but barcodes and serial numbers in the Description column of the BOL. Turns out it was just a bunch of parts for the motor pool.

Fair enough, never really had need to look up the regs on it.

Am strap and chain monkey, so its hard for me to not know what im hauling, irritating to have dot ask the question, presumably they have eyes

The trap drove right into me.

I was leaving the Loves in Batesville, MS and was attempting to make a left turn to get back to the interstate. I was sitting and waiting for traffic to clear and a DOT truck drives real slow in front of me going toward the interstate and sits on the side of the road right in front of the truck stop. I pull out and obtain a top speed of 8mph before he puts his lights on and pulls me over. He said I had done nothing wrong but wanted to check my paperwork.

I wasn't that upset about it. 15 minutes of my time got me a 50 dollar bonus on that week's paycheck.

It happened to me. I picked up a sealed trailer. It was light andxI was in a hurry. The officer at the Port of Entry asked me what I was hauling and I said "I don't know. It was a sealed trailer, but here are the BOLs." I was carrying mannequins. I guess the dummy was behind the steering wheel.

Say you pick this load up from a Ryder warehouse. It's preloaded and sealed- bol in the mailbox, sign one copy and take the rest. Load is going to Simplicity, Inc.

How is any driver going to be able to identify the contents of the load?

It's not hazmat and I'm permitted to haul general freight to household goods and everything in-between so I'm good to go. I could call dispatch, then dispatch will call the broker, who will then call the customer and I'll have the answer a week from Tuesday.
