i’ve got three years out here. Actually a little more and if I didn’t think I could make it as an owner operator, I wouldn’t try. And technically I’m not fully trying because I’m not getting my own authority…yet….I can make $1500 a week right now. Company driving. Not bad for me…But I like calling my own shots, being my own boss, pushing myself hard and then relaxing a bit in between. I’m the type of person who if I clear 2500 after all my expenses that first week I’m not gonna go home and sit, I’m going to be holy crap I can make some real money and I’ll probably stay out six weeks straight. Lol
I was leaning towards Landstar And like i said it’s 50/50 on the reviews with them. But I’m thinking given my personality I might do better with a smaller company.
And then there’s the Issue right now I’m finding a decent used truck. The trucks that were selling for $40,000 to 80,000 a few years ago are 65-100,000 now. I’ve got cashed saved That my original plan was to pay cash for something and not have a payment, but that was when they were decent trucks for around 50,000. All that’s out there in that price range now is junk.Speed_Drums and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

edit ok I guess if you don't have a truck yet it would be tough to buy a truck and get the authority started at the same time. That's a lot of money out at once.
As for lies & games.. lol well you won't be getting away from those no matter what you do. It will either be the company you lease onto or the brokers. The advantage of your own numbers though is you can at least never work with a broker or customer again who play games. -
GYPSY65 Thanks this.

I'd say if you're a hard working, goal oriented person, go straight to working alone.
I have no idea what folks who lease with other companies are making, buy I can attest to what a guy with his own authority can do.
I'm very picky about what loads I take and where they go. I'll DH out of a crap situation into a good one.
This week the stars aligned. I loaded Sunday for 6700, dropped Monday. Loaded Tuesday for 6500 dropping Thursday, and reloading for a Monday drop paying 5350.
Definitely not the average week, but 10k/week gross is definitely doable.blacklabel Thanks this. -
I'm biased. In 5 years ive been with 2 or 3 companies. Depending on How you count.
The next time you talk to a land star driver and there not happy ask them how long they have been with ls. I talked to a driver was with land star 19 years still here amd hates it.....now that don't make to much since. Atlease not to me.
Good luck on who ever you decided to go with. Me I'm staying with landstar Untill I get my own numbers or a motorcycle. don't know which.blacklabel and Speed_Drums Thank this.
