They're another scumbag mega looking to screw over OOs. You know they're part of the machine that pays Congress to pass laws that are strangling your business, right? Why would you help them? They are making way more off that cheap freight than you are. Also, as TallJoe mentioned they are stacking the deck against you with their tricks. Even if there were no funny business going on, it's still a race to bottom bidding on it. Too much like that abomination, Shipping Wars to me. So many decent brokers out there to work with if you bring your A game. Hunt surely isn't one of them.

What Mega Carrier isn’t trying to screw over O/O?

Use them as a tool when needed. Being a former Aircraft mechanic I have had thousands of dollars in tools. Some snap on, some Mac, some Matco and some craftsman and some Chinese built crap. The main tools were always the best quality because I relied on them every day. On the other end of the spectrum were tools I might use once or twice a year and I might buy a cheap knock-off. Why spend a ton of money for something I rarely use. JB is that tool. Use it when needed.

I was in Arizona last week and open deck freight pretty much sucks coming out of AZ. JB had a load posted. I called on it. Told them what I needed to take the load and we agreed and I put in the bid which the agent on the phone done. This load paid $3.57 A mile for 615 miles. Great rates? No, but coming out of Arizona on a Thursday not to darn shabby. In fact, Head and shoulders above what any other broker was paying at the time. None were even close. It would be a ####### business decision to take some other load from any other broker vs what they paid and lose well over $1.00 a mile.

Why people get bent out of shape about such things shouldn’t surprise me. If you’ve had a bad experience don’t use them. If they F me over I’ll be done as well. But I’m looking at all avenues when I am looking for a load.

If you're using them, you're the tool. Not meant as an insult. They're using you in the long run. It's not the other way around. They benefit and gain the most in the end and you're helping them smash the small carriers ultimately.

In essence, I agree with you. The megas are not our friends. They are snakes who need us for their sporadic shortcomings but when the right moment comes, they'll snap and bite us with a lethal venom.
Not to use them, though...is fighting windmills or at the vey least impractical. They will entice many enough to dance with them. You might as well dance with them too and but be merciless about the rate you ask for. Rejoice the moment whenever they say they will be losing on this load at that rate (if that's true at all). Spot market is nothing but finding loads at a freight garbage...and we are like racoons plundering through it everyday...some pieces of it (garbage) are well preserved and still good, so we might even get fat at the good times. That ain't pretty comparison, I know...As long as I can stay fat, I'll use any avenue of income. Especially, in the lean times, this kind of talk is meaningless.
Are we not hating Amazon, fully aware how evil that is for the working people class, yet we keep ordering stuff from them? Are the alternatives not limited already? Same here...go ahead, squeeze JB HUNT, Schneider, Swift, XPO - squeeze them dry while you can.

I haven't pulled a single load for any mega nor any member of the ATA in five years. If I ever feel I have to do so, I will hang up the keys and sell. I refuse to be the fuel their fire burns.

You must be one of the few...that's really admirable. I wish I could have that power in me.

Many of them have poor credit too. At least in the open deck world. Ironically, the last time I checked JB Hunt they had like 40 some DTP. Talk about dumping salt in the wound.

They pay all right. If you use their 360, they'll wave the Quick Pay fee. I've never had a problem and I do regular checks in mail with them. Also, their detention, when using 360 is automated and mostly without issues. $50 per hour after 2 hours, which is not the worst among the megas.
I have no idea why their credit is low on DAT and such low it has always been.

Ten4. I charge 100/hr after 2. Another reason I'd never haul for them.

No insult taken, everyone should be entitled to an opinion and we don’t have to treat each other like #######es.

Every broker uses us as a tool. We also use them. It is what it is.

I do agree with you that using the small family owned ones tends to give me a bit more satisfaction and has helped in getting further loads by working well together. thus far I have not been screwed over by any of them. I’m sure some day that will happen.
