Does anyone know about this def deletion check DOT is doing? I've heard in NJ there putting a sensor at the end of the pipe and getting you to rev up to see the at quality or something...so much of us have deleted def whats the fine how strict are they doing this if this is going to be a trend how easy will it be to reverse the deletion....thanks drivers

This very well may cost you more than the DEF problems them selves would had cost. Good luck as they will most likely put you out of commission on the spot.
How long will it take you to put everything back together?
How much will it cost to add it back on?
    What will be the fine?

Sounds like a lot of money and not worth it.

Is there some reason you have to run Jersey? I avoid that place like the plague.

The probe down the pipe is an opacity test. It checks for smoke. Nothing to do with DEF.

Mo will dip your tanks, even on pickups.
Reason being is so many farm kids don't wanna pay for fuel so they borrow some of grand daddys farm fuel after all no one will ever know right??

    Correct
NJ CT NY all run this test in both scale house and roadside events- not super often but they do all do them. I can’t speak to other states from personal experience.
Long as the exhaust meets given parameters the truck passes. they generally give a window sticker for a passing test as well.

If a vehicle does not pass the opacity test; the operator is generally given a “fix it ticket”
There may be a threshold whereupon the vehicle is put OOS but I have never heard of it happening.

NJ's emissions 'opacity' [smoke] has been around for years. NJ registered trucks need to re-test within 90 days of renewing or face a $700.00 fine.

Took about 2 years to clean up the Macks [mostly] that ran better and smoked when the emissions valve malfufnctioned. That fine was $1700 reduced in court to the normal amount IF you presented proof of repair at court. My owner operators do it with the anual FMCSA inspection every year.

That left the specially set up roving compliance units [cost $$$] now set up and test anybody looking for smoky exhaust.

Nothing to do with DEF and current FMCSA/EPA emissions. In the past 10 year I've had 2 of my NJ based units tested on the road. Your mileage may vary BUT the odds are with you simply because of the huge number ot trucks on the highway here.

Exactly. They can't tell it's deleted, but they can tell it's not within spec.
