That's a sliding scale....a long time ago, I looked into a job like that. First, off you ain't doing that job full time. Second, that's including tips. You can make up to that amount with tips. That actual hourly wage ain't that much.

Specially when you figure in the cost of the vehicle.

There are several companies that pay $1700-2100 p/wk gross. I did that every week at Linde before they merged with praxair, and sold most of there terminals to messer. If drivers would stop thinking that OTR companies are the only thing out there. Then they would know that corporations or private carriers pay the best. Because those companies make profit off of products. Not deliveries like 3rd party carriers.
As far as what dry van or refrigerated company that pays 2k per week. Most companies that pay higher dont have weekly payroll. Its bi-weekly pay that averages out to maybe 2k p/week. But I think that kind of pay may still be available at WMT. But I haven't drove for Sams wally fleet since 2017. So im not sure if thats still achievable. There were alot of changes going on to prevent making that much it seems.
But there are decent paying careers as a driver out there. But some ppl aren't willing to move to areas where more money can be made. They rather stay in these small towns and complain that truck driving doesn't pay. At times its not just what company you work at. But where you live can determine what your making also.Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
Where I live could hardly be considered a small town but the pay still isn't there. You are correct though, I am not willing to move halfway across the country possibly into the snow/ice belt for better pay so OTR it is for now.

Move up in skill from just swinging doors and 2k a week is very possible. It just requires slightly more skill and a whole lot more effort.AModelCat and haz-matguru Thank this.

Yes I drove local b class for last 5 and shes new so we'll work our way up. I'm not worried about money. Her training was short so I'm still upping her skills.
-
Agreed with everything you said except the more effort part. I haven't hauled anything with doors in close to 2 years and now a 2K week is on the slow side.
-
2k is about the least I can make a week but that’s pulling various open deck trailers. Lots more work then a van, at least I assume so, I’ve never swung doors.

Tankers I pull are 99.9% no touch. On the rare occasion you will find a customer that won't allow their employees to climb on top of the tank to vent it and you have to do it. That's about the hardest I will work other than the usual dropping and hooking.
