There has been several studies about this. The thing they found was the problem of target fixation. A light flashing at a steady rhythm becomes a guiding point, and people lock into that. Randomized patterns don’t have the same effect. This is why a lot of the emergency services vehicles have that type of system now. This why it is now recommended that if you have to stop, turn off all lights.

You pretty much have to get in a wreck to get a farm truck looked at. Couple years back, BTO farmer had a truck run a T intersection loaded at a major highway. Put it in a 9' ditch on its side. Had 2 working brakes in adjustment. Not 2 axles, 2 brakes on a 5 axle truck. Lucky no one died.

Dot did actually investigated the operation. Still can't do anything but write tickets. Can't stop them.

Your right. I personally think the lights are to bright anymore.

I know we have all passed emergency vehicle's so bright you can't see anything as you approach and pass.

So its not just me that thinks the lights are too bright? They actually cause me eye pain when I see them in pitch black darkness.

When I was riding bikes and we were going out of the city we all carried 3 or 4 repair links in the tool kit and most of us carried a cheap chain breaker. Even going for a ride to the lake, an impromptu hillclimb contest might break out and beer might be sent for as well as hotdogs and other fire-cooked food.
A Friday night ride after work often ended Sunday afternoon during summer.
