Waiting is pretty much going to be the norm at any school. An independent school isn't going to be able to dedicate a trainer and truck to one student and make a profit.

Besides, the purpose of school is to teach you to pass the test. Learning to drive happens when you're on the road with a trainer and every day after that.

Not when you choose a good private school. One that actually cares about the product they are turning out.

the school i went to back in the day taught us everything we needed to pass the test, plus a lot about how to drive the truck properly.

I got a grant for truck driving school in AL because I was unemployed for a few years. Don’t know if CA has them or not but it’s worth looking into. Only things I had to pay for were the physical and the learners permit iirc. Edit: this was for a community college truck driving course that was in the 2-3000$ range. I don’t think they had anything for the private stand alone truck driving schools that are much more expensive.

I was also unemployed for awhile found a grant through the state unemployment agency, took a course through the local college which was like 2 months long and was the best thing I had done. Didn't want to do one of those fly by night truck schools that just teaches you enough to pass the test, I learned a lot while I was there, and the state picked up the whole tab, it was like $5,000 I believe. Got all the endorsements, paid for background check and even bought me a nice pair of work boots. Hired on with Schneider for a year then got a local gig, home every night, weekends off, good pay. That was like 9 years ago.
