What is important to you in a driving job?

There’s companies that will do all that and make around 80 K pulling reefer

 

Eh. I know they're out there. But based on the stories I hear about the reefer business, 80k isn't enough.

There's a company less than a mile up the road from my house, I know the owner for 30 years or so. Great guy, and his drivers are well compensated. They run reefer regionally. I talk to the one driver daily on the phone. He's a friend of mine. Seems like he's constantly waiting at some warehouse to unload. It's like he spends five or six hours driving to wherever, then sits for five or six hours. Even though he's paid for sitting, I say screw that. The owner of that company has been persistent in trying to hire me. I make as much as he offered at my current job. And I'm home every night and sleep next to my wife. I'm on track to hit $72k this year.

So for me to consider going OTR pulling anything, $85-90k is just where I'll start to listen to any offers. Anything less and I won't even consider

 

Long hood, chicken lights, big engine, big radio, big belt buckle- reefer madness

I take pride in each food load I haul. Each load to me it’s important and exciting as when I did open deck. I don’t really care for waiting a long time to get unloaded or loaded but I try to be on the dock whenever I can. Got to make sure the trailer doesn’t get beat up and the product is good. It helps knowing that it’s going to feed families. Makes me

I am semi local. 4 days daily, one night on the road (don't work weekends). I don't give two ####s about driver comfort. I can pay to have a seat installed if that is an issue. I want a tractor that can run without issue. I gotta run 500 miles a day. I need something reliable to get me home those 4 days. We can figure out the maintenance #### on the day I do layover.
