if the problem is in the servo try using a gopro camera watching the linkage put a piece of tape around the linkage so you can easily see the movement also while under load in a high gear reach down and feel the clutch pedal check to see if free play changes under load

maybe you can do it with your foot but you are feeling for a small inconsistency in pedal travel and feel and if you don’t drive that truck every day the difference could be missed
just drop the air out of the seat and feel with your hand.
a clutch disks can be installed wrong they have to be stacked per instructions i don’t know what happens if they are stacked wrong slipping maybe? but if if it is installed correctly than something in the linkage has got to be the problem, one more thought if the motor mounts are bad and there is more movement of the motor that could effect the linkage free travel but that should be felt in the shifter but maybe it developed slowly and the driver has not noticed or aware the that can cause a problems but i think it would show up worse in the lower gears

Rideandrepair and Cat sdp Thank this.

It depends on a truck's setup and that may be true with all Petes. I had a shop switch mine to manual with a hydraulic clutch, but they told me they wouldn't know until they started tearing it apart whether they could or not. The self adjusting was eating the clutch off-road. Been about a year now with the manual adjustment and I've had no problems.

Update: Dealership test drove and got it to slip. They made an adjustment to it and drove again, this time claiming no slippage.

Tomorrow morning we’ll send it out and see what happens.... after being let down many times I’m not counting on it being fixed.

I hope you get everything back in order asap.

One a side note, its always perplexing to see items not being being repaired correctly by the people supposedly trained to repair them. We get to pay for mistakes they make. Only in this industry can this happen.

Its not always as cut and dry as it might seem. I consider myself to be in the top 10% of my class and I still struggle with intermittent and hard to find problems. Makes driving look rather easy in my eyes.

I can think of many other practices where much money is wasted on guesswork and failed attempts to fix things.

The difference being owning up when you drop the ball and making it right for the customer. Doesnt happen all that often. Plus you only hear about the bad experiences. Rarely do you hear when people make it right.

Funny you two should mention that. I scheduled an appointment at a very reputable shop two weeks ago to get both my rears replaced/rebuilt with a gear change from 3.55 to 4.10. It took them a day and a half. It's three hours from my yard so I stayed at a nearby hotel. I go pick the truck up and they put the same ratio during the rebuild! So now I get to sit here another night or two until they correct it. Even the good shops suck these days.

Oh, and they can't seem to tell me how/why oil is leaking from my shifter. They can't even tell me how to get the oil out! They're SUPPOSED to be transmission specialists.

I get it, proper diagnostics is key, but we also don’t hear all the complaints as well. This industry is majority of “you pay now” mechanics who have no clue what’s going on and start replacing parts until it’s fixed. I’m just praying my truck lasts another year and 4 months before any major issues.

Not every truck is the same I’ll concede that, just wish mechanics were held to a higher standard when it comes to CMV’s. Just like contractors are when they work on your house. That’s the one thing I like about Vegas is they have a relief fund for homeowners who where screwed by them.
