The Consortium that I am using, Oschmann services in Arizona, is having all kinds of problems.

I've been with them for the last two years and they have not at all been consistent with sending me letters that tell me no one has been requested for testing. There were some quarters that I received the letter in the middle but I think most of them I didn't receive anything at all. I should be receiving a notice either to test or that no one is required to test quarterly, correct?

Now I understand that I'm supposed to keep all of those records for DOT as far as any notifications, Communications whatever, correct? From them in two years I have once I was selected and there are maybe two or so other Communications beyond that.

When I called there I tried to explain to the guy on the phone that it's important that I get these notifications and that I get them consistently. I get busy with things and if I haven't had a regular consistent time that I get these, that I lose track of it and then I don't contact them. And if they didn't contact me when I'm supposed to test then it's on me. They are so out of control I'm sure that at some point someone will be picked and they will not notify them.

The guy that I spoke to there was so ignorant and so rude and so pompous and so arrogant, that after I explained to him how important this is that I get regular notifications, he not only told me their Software System is all screwed up and they're trying to implement something different, he then tried to blame me because I don't call them all the time and check on this. Which of course my reply was that's what I'm paying you for, to contact me... not for me to chase you around in circles. That guy was an ignorant obnoxious d-bag.

Now they sent me an e-mail I think around October 4th or something like that saying that everyone had to be tested for the third quarter by October 8th. Now apparently I was not chosen, but it how can they even legally have anyone test beyond the quarter?

Also I have another Consortium that I want to join, but this Consortium does not expire until I think the end of November or the end of December.

How do I change consortiums without losing coverage or having any problem with DOT That I switched before the time was up?

I'm astonished anymore when I get to deal with someone that actually knows what they're doing.

You're experience is by far the new norm, where you do everything.

Get someone new, screw their contract. Then keep hammering on them to get you all the documentation. Their screw ups don't protect you if you get a compliance review.

That sounds exactly right for the world right now!

All I can say is CMCI (OOIDA's consortium) tests the living crap out of me! I don't get any other communications from them but the tests come so often it doesn't friggin matter I guess!

I kinda figured when I started all of this that I had better use very reputable and established entities to take care of whatever I needed taken care of because if I didn't it would just fall back on me like everything else in this industry does.

Serious question - If these people agree to do your consortium duties, then shouldn't the blame fall on them? I mean surely they have to sign something to be able to administer this in the first place.

Since I got with my new one about a year ago, I haven't been tested yet. It's got me wondering if I'm lucky, or they're not doing their job?

You have to make sure they are doing their job.

Last I remember reading I believe it is 50% of a companies drivers every other year...then it switched to 50% per year...which in a one man show is all the friggin time! Super annoying because my closest place is 20 miles away and 20 miles home and steals half my dang day!

I believe I remember reading that OF COURSE it is up to us, the carrier, to be sure that is happening and reach out if not.
